Happy Hour at Casa Dracula by M. Acosta
I’m not really sure what I think about Happy Hour at Casa Dracula by Marta Acosta. The premise behind the novel involves our heroine getting infected by the “vampire” Oswald and the subsequent transition. When we’re introduced to the vampires, we’re actually told that they are not vampires, but are people who have a certain DNA anomaly that makes them live a little longer, heal a lot faster, and gives them strange cravings. There really is nothing vampiric about the novel. Yes there is a little blood drinking, but it’s nothing that you probably couldn’t find at some teenage goth party.
If I don’t think about the vampire angle of the novel, then overall, it’s a pretty good story. There’s some romance, but it’s more like sexual frustration for two-thirds of the novel. The villains are more young boys bucking the system, than anything menacing. Overall, it’s a cute story and I’ll probably go out and find the next novel at my library, but I doubt I would buy the series. It’s cute and it reminds me too much about pink bunnies and rainbows instead of vampires. Most vampires have a dark side, even in novels that are fun and comedic (i.e. Dead After Dark by C. Harris or Dead and Unwed by MJ Davidson), but this one was more romance than anything else.

I just heard something about this. Well I tend to like my vampires… vampiric lol but it sounds interesting.
