Hex Appeal by L. Wisdom

The second novel in Linda Wisdom’s Hex series, Hex Appeal was just as great as the first one.  This series is fastly becoming one of my all time favorites.

The second book in the Hex series features feisty witch Jazz and her drop-dead gorgeous vampire cop boyfriend in a new installment. On again, off again for over 300 years, Jazz and Nick are finally back together, but then Jazz thinks Nick has bitten her. Separated again, upset and angry, the two of them start having violent, recurring dreams in which each one figures in disturbing and menacing ways. They can’t sleep, they can’t eat, and they finally figure out they’d better get together and discover who’s poisoning their dreams-and their relationship.

Hex Appeal was a blast to read.  I’m really starting to enjoy this series and a lot of it is due to the uniqueness of it.  The idea of witches and vampires and everything else cooperating within a society isn’t all that new, but the story that’s being told doesn’t really take on the dark nature of the supernatural.  We’re not dealing with one huge Mr. Bad, we’re dealing with every day annoyances that Jazz Tremaine has to deal with.  Okay, so they are not on the same scale as our every day annoyances, but when you live a life of magic, there’s going to be some weirdness.

The story that’s being told isn’t depending on one event that could ruin Jazz’s life, but it’s how she lives her life and deals with the curve balls that are thrown her way.  She’s trying to make her relationship with Nick work for a change, but when she starts having the nightmares, she doesn’t automatically equate it to someone out to get her.  That’s one of the things that I’m loving about this series – Jazz’s life isn’t one big drama.  She’s not having to look over her shoulder for someone stalking her; she’s not fearful that someone wants her dead.  She’s living as normal a life that a witch (who’s dating a vampire) can get.

Overall, I am loving this series and I can’t wait to start Wicked by Any Other Name (yes, I did get my hot little hands on the ARC).  The Hex series by Linda Wisdom is a great series to read when you want the supernatural, when you want something big to go down, but you don’t want all the drama.  When Jazz confronts the Big Bad, it’s not a long drawn out battle, but she does it in the most logical witchy way she can.  Honestly, I’ve been needing something like this series lately.  I’ve been wanting my paranormal fix, but I didn’t want the intense, twisty, drama inducing stories that are normally out there (even the comedies tend to have drama) and this series has been a godsend.  Seriously, I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to pick this up and anyone who hasn’t should go out and read the first two novels before Wicked by Any Other Name comes out March 3, 2009.

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. This series sounds right up my street. I love to read about witches and vampires so to have them both together sounds fabulous. Will add it to my list.

  2. I loved this book as well. I haven’t read 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover but will be going back to read that one. She is a very talented author. Great review!
