Angels’ Blood by N. Singh

1 Feb 2009 | Submitted by: Jackie | 9 Comments |

Angels and vampires…they don’t fight each other, in fact they are on the same side. Seriously, have you ever heard of that? That’s the premise for Nalini Singh’s new Guild Hunter series and the first novel, Angels’ Blood, is phenomenal.

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option…even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…

This is a whole new take on the vampire/angel relationship and I love how it works.  Instead of the two beings at odds with each other, fighting the everlasting good vs. evil battle, they actually coexist together because angels are the only beings who can create vampires.  Weird huh?  Seriously, this is one of the reasons I have fallen for the writings of Nalini Singh.  Her ability to create new worlds and cultures that go against every other norm out there is spectacular.  Not only are we given a whole new take on vampires, but she’s also giving us a story about the one mythical/religious figure that rarely anyone writes about – angels.

We’re also given some very interesting characters.  The development of Raphael throughout the novel is so gradual that it’s hard not to see him being the same character from beginning to end.  Plus, our heroine has some really complex issues from her past and I can’t wait to see where those lead us.  I just know they are going to come up again from their presence.  I am also going to enjoy reading more on a lot of the supporting characters.

Overall, I really don’t want to go into too much detail because I know I’ll end up saying something that’ll be spoilerish and I really don’t want to do that.  Angels’ Blood is just that fabulous.  The sequel, Angels’ Kiss, won’t be out until 2010, however I want it now!

You need to check out her Psy-Changeling series. They are awesome! I so can’t wait for the 6th book to come out this summer.

Oh! This is the first in a new series, so if you haven’t read her before, you can still read this one before the others.

I’m definitely going to add Singh to my list – I haven’t read her yet, so she’ll be perfect for my new authors challenge, too.

Meaghan – that’s all you had to do. I had to take Mr. Linky down for joining since I could only have one per post. I’ll add you to the list.

Belle – I love Singh. She has such a twist on changelings and I love the uniqueness of the Psy culture.

    Nice review, thanks, Jackie.

Angels and vamps in the same book – hmmm. And the first in a new series. Normally I’d wait and get the book via PBS.

But Nalini Singh’s the author, so it’s going on my Buy List for the rel. date of 3/3/09. She is an amazing author, I KNOW it’ll be good!!
