Escapist Newsletter (Vol 5 Issue 10)

News from LE

CDaniels-Wild Wild DeathContest winners have been announced for the Picture Book Contest, Melanie Card, JN Duncan, Jess Macallan and Jennifer Estep contests here and here. I haven’t had a chance to package up  the books yet, what with the busted feet and hospital visits, so if you haven’t claimed your prize yet, you still have time.  However, I will be starting to put them together over the next couple of days If you’re a winner, please contact me before 10/7 otherwise I will be drawing new names.

I have got to give kudos to the amazing reviewers I have here at Literary Escapism.  Trish, Casey, Nicole and Nikki (and even the hubby) have made it so LE has posted 67 consecutive reviews.  That is so fantastic.  So I hope everyone has enjoyed seeing a review every day and we’ll try to continue doing it, but I can’t promise that.  As of right now, I have nothing ready to post, but we’ll work on it.

Cover Extravaganza

During December, 110 different covers were revealed. I’m only going to show off a few that I haven’t seen get as much time on the blogs, but you can find all of them, in their original sizes, on the Facebook page. There were a ton of great sources: Wicked Scribes, All Things Urban FantasyDark Faerie Tales and Tez Says.

From the Author Sites

JBennett-Summoning the NightIt looks like Laurell K Hamilton has a title for her next Anita Blake novel.  Amazon is showing that the title will be Dead Sexy with a release date of June 5, 2012.  However, Hamilton ran a vote for the title, between Kiss the Dead and Dead Sexy, via Twitter earlier this month and Kiss the Dead won.

I haven’t seen this posted yet, but if you receive Jenna Black’s newsletter then you’ve heard the news. If you don’t (and why not?), then I’m assuming you haven’t heard.  Black’s Faeriewalker series has been optioned for film!  This doesn’t mean it is being made into a movie yet, but this is one step closer to seeing it on the big screen.  It means someone out in Hollywood likes the concept and wants to try.

Jory Strong has posted the back cover copy for her February 2012 release, Inked Magic.

With the touch of her palms to the skin of a crime victim, San Francisco tattoo artist Etaín can see the faces of the guilty and draw them. Changeling elf but unaware of it, at odds with her police captain father and FBI brother, magic and gift have put her on the path of two compelling men.

Cathal Dunne, the son of an Irish mob boss, needs Etaín’s help finding the rapists who left his cousin for dead. Eamon, a powerful elf lord, is determined to make her his consort-wife.

Her gift once made permanence impossible when it came to a lover. Now as she approaches the transition to fully Elven, her survival depends on keeping two. One of the men is willing to share her. The other isn’t—until the search for a sexual predator turns deadly—and only by paying magic’s price will there be any future at all.

What Bears Repeating

SJay-Blood on the BayouSuvudu has the fantastic news that Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series was just acquired by Dreamworks Studios. While this does mean we’ll get to see Barrons and Mac on the big screen, there’s no mention as to when.

Ann Aguirre has the fabulous news.  She’s sold a new trilogy to Ace and we’ll get the first novel in 2013.  This is another science fiction series (yea!) that is being described as a prison break in space.  Aguirre has also sold two more novels, these ones will be a steampunk whodunit that will be co-authored by Andres Aguirre.  Either the first title or the series will be named Bronze Gods, however there’s no mention of a possible release schedule.

Fabulous news for Outlander fans.  Diana Gabaldon has announced the title for the eighth Outlander novel.  I’m still not sure when it’s going to be released, but we’ll get more Jamie and Claire with Written in My Heart’s Own Blood.

Anton Strout has begun a new adventure.  The Once & Future Podcast is a new weekly Science Fiction & Fantasy book-centric podcast that will feature a lot of things you’ll want to know (i.e. breaking news in the publishing industry, upcoming release titles, guest authors, book tour info, convention news, etc). Authors already confirmed for future appearances are: Rachel Caine, Amber Benson, Chris Hardwick, Jim C. Hines, Matthew Cody and many others.

Maria Snyder has posted the cover copy for her upcoming fantasy novel, Touch of Power.

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life….

Kim Harrison is going to be making a couple of Michigan appearances.  On October 25th, she’ll be at Schuler Books & Music in Lansing and then at Nicola’s on November 1st.  I really only know the major book chains in the area, so Nicola’s is going to be new for me, but I think I’m going to need to keep my eyes on this one. For one, Heather Brewer (The Slayer Chronicles: First Kill) will be there on September 20th and then Laini Taylor (Daughter of Smoke and Bone) will be there on the 29th.

Featured Book: Alterant by Sherrilyn Kenyon & Dianna Love

SKenyon-AlterantThe way Evalle Kincaid sees it, saving mankind from total destruction should have cleared her name. But when words uttered in the heat of combat are twisted against her, she’s blamed for the prison break of three dangerous Alterants. She has one chance to clear the cloud of suspicion hanging over her . . . for good. All she has to do is recapture the escapees. But deals with gods and goddesses are tricky at best, and now the lives of all Beladors, and the safety of innocent humans, rides on Evalle’s success. The only person she can ask for help wants to see her dead.

Want a taste of Kenyon & Love’s Belador series, then check out, Fire Bound, a free story available now!

If you  haven’t had a chance to read this new series, I’m giving away two sets of the Belador series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love – Blood Trinity and Alterant. Contest ends October 15th.

From the Reader

JSwan-FeverAccording to Blastr, it looks like Marvel is possibly following in DC Comics footsteps in relaunching their line.  Well, they may be simply starting a whole new timeline.  Not sure, but I’m curious – have you checked out the New 52 by DC Comics?  Was this a good move on DCs part or are you not a fan?  How do you feel about Marvel doing the same?

Stumbling Over Chaos has another fabulous edition of the Misadventures in Stock Photography.  This time around, she’s featuring Curly Blond Bangs Guy (CBBG).

DC Comics has begun releasing the New 52 and Tor.com has all the details on the new comics. If you’re curious to see what the new Action Comics, Detective Comics, Justice League or any of the other new reboots – then check out Tor’s list of reader guides.

Have you had a chance to read Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy?  I haven’t, but for the price of $5 (for all 3 novels), then I really don’t see a reason not to grab it and give it a try.

Wicked Scribes has found a bunch of ebooks, which are being offered as Penguin especials.

Dark Faerie Tales and All Things Urban Fantasy are back again this October with their Spooky Legends feature. Between the two sites, they’ll be featuring 62 different authors retelling creepy urban legends, celebrating the chilling new releases of the season and giving away a ton of books.

The Obscured Vixen is doing another one of her “going on a picnic” posts, but this time she’s having a sleepover with our favorite literary chicks.

The more I see about ABC’s new upcoming series, Once Upon a Time, the more curious I’m getting. What is everyone else thinking?

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
