A Demon Does It Better by Linda Wisdom

LWisdom - Demon Does It BetterLinda Wisdom has this fascinating series featuring 13 witches who were expelled from their Witches Academy and I’m still just as fascinated with her sixth novel, A Demon Does It Better.

Lovely witch Lili Carter takes a job at a paranormal hospital where patients have been disappearing. There she encounters Jared, a dangerously sexy demon on a mission that gets Lili into a world of trouble. Lili can’t avoid Jared for long and soon they find themselves creating a whole new kind of magick…

Granted, A Demon Does It Better is technically the second novel of Wisdom’s Demon series, but it’s a continuation of her Hex series.  So while you don’t need to have read about Jazz, Stasi or Blair in order to follow along, you still get plenty of offhand references to them.  However, we do get to see Maggie in her Hellion glory, but she re-enforces one of the things that I love about this series.  You don’t have to read any of the previous novels before stepping into this series. Yes, you get to see Maggie, but Maggie’s story has nothing to do with A Demon Does It Better.  She’s a side character, just like she was in Blair’s story Hex in High Heels.  Although I really do recommend that you read the previous novels simply because each of the witches have their own fascinating males and companions.

Oftentimes, the sidekicks or companions can easily be overlooked when a story focuses on two individuals trying to get it on; but Wisdom gives her characters such unique personalities that you almost want the story to be about them. However, there is no overlooking the utter deliciousness of her males.  Jared will break anyones hearts.  With all the pain and betrayal he goes through, he still has such a caring heart that the two images we’re given of him are hard to reconcile.

My only real complaint would have to be Lili.  Of all the witches we’ve seen thus far, she’s probably the only one I’ve seen that has fallen so quickly for a male and I think that made it a little too sugar sweet for me.  Lili still has quite the personality and a backbone when she needs it the most, but I kind of wish there had been more of a hard to get relationship between her and Jared.  In my opinion, they fell together a little too easily compared to the other witches.

However, I have to say that I easily devoured each page as I read A Demon Does It Better.  There was definitely some intrigue, along with some flirty fun, that help to keep the plot moving.  The final conflict was a little quick, and I’m still not exactly sure what happened, but getting to that point was fascinating.

Overall, A Demon Does It Better was another great novel by Linda Wisdom and I’m eagerly awaiting to see who we’ll get to see next.  For those who have read the series, we still have no clue exactly what the spell did that the 13 witches got expelled for, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll find out eventually.

  1. I really enjoyed this one as well! I love this series and I really like how much darker these last two books were compared to the beginning books. I’m eagerly waiting for the next book as well :P Great review!
