Escapist Newsletter (Vol 6 Issue 7)

News from LE

MArnett-Nightmare AffairThere’s not a lot to report from the LE front. I guess the biggest one (or maybe two) would be that the RT Poster Challenge will begin on Friday.  I was going to start it this past weekend, but I’m still working on figuring out which board has whose signature. *grin* Let’s just say that both posters are pretty packed with author goodness.  If you want want to see the posters I’m taking about, you can see them here and here. The posters will be given away at the end of the challenge, so if you want to participate, I would get your books ready.

And the second bit of news I believe people would be interested in involves the previous novels to the gorgeous cover below. Penguin has been generous enough to send me a copy of Bloodlines and an ARC of Golden Lily by Richelle Mead and I’ll be giving them away later today. Make sure you check back because the contest will only be open for a week. *grin*

This month LE has had some fabulous authors visits.  If you haven’t had a chance to stop by and see what they are up to here on LE, you can always stop by now. *grin*

  1. Alma Katsu, author of The Reckoning
  2. Hanna Martine, author of Liquid Lies contest for a copy of Liquid Lies ends tomorrow night!
  3. Jenn Bennett, author of Summoning the Night
  4. Kristine Grayson, author of Thoroughly Kissed
  5. Melissa Stevens, author of Change
  6. Tamara Hogan, author of Chase Me

I know last month I had stated that I was looking for an additional reviewer for LE, but sadly, I’ve had to nixed that idea for the time being. Summer vacation has been kicking my butt (and I finally get why parents look forward to September 1st), so the girls and I are going to get everything caught up and then we’ll be posting about a new reviewer (possibly two) once school starts up again.

Other than that, it’s been kind of slow around here. So let’s get on with the news…

Book News

MJDavidson-Undead and UnderwaterMaryJanice Davidson has posted the cover for her next Queen Betsy novel, Undead and Underwater, and I am so so glad that it’s not another one of those plastic barbie doll head covers. I’m sorry, but I haven’t been able to read that series since the publisher changed the covers from the fun cartoon style to those black and white monstrosities. I’m kind of hoping this is a signal of change for the series, so maybe I’ll be able to get back into them. Have you continued with the series? What do you think? However, I think I figured out the reason for the change in cover, when I went hunting for a release date – March 3, 2013.  Undead and Underwater is going to be a crossover novella featuring both Queen Betsy AND Fred the Mermaid.  Here’s the deets on it:

Undead and Underwater is the Betsy/Fred team-up I’ve been threatening…I mean, promising to do. (To paraphrase Stan Lee: Because no one demanded it!) Yes, the queen of the undead and the dour could’ve-been-a-princess mermaid reluctantly team up to help a mutual “friend”. Madison Fehr has gotten her silly self in a jam, and calls an old friend of the family for help (her mother and Betsy’s mother grew up together).

Jennifer Estep has announced the title for her next Mythos Academy novel. The story continues with Midnight Frost and will hit shelves in August 2013.  With even more Jennifer Estep, it was confirmed that there will be ten books in the Elemental series, with two of them coming out in 2013 – Deadly Sting (April) and a yet to be titled #9 (September).

Chloe Neill is going on tour for Biting Cold! She’ll be making five stops to promote the book in August. So if you’re in Texas, DC, Delaware, Nebraska and Wisconsin, I would go check out the tour schedule.

Wicked Scribes has found the cover blurb for the upcoming Karen Marie Moning novel, Iced, which is the first spin-off of the Fever series being released in October.

The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.

Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

The tour schedule for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Time Untime has been posted, but I’m hoping it hasn’t been finalized. There’s only four stops currently and none in Michigan. I’m holding out hope. *grin*

HANG FIRE is a steampunk short story set in late 1800?s America. It takes place between the Age of Steam book #1, Dead Iron and book #2 Tin Swift. The story is broken into 20 “chapters” and posted, one chapter at a time, on 20 awesome blogs.

Featured Book: The Night Beat by Gini Koch

GKoch-Night BeatThe majority of Prosaic City’s residents don’t know that their town exists on top of another place — Necropolis, City of the Undead. For the most part, the two planes of existence manage to remain separate. And when they don’t, Necropolis Enforcement has beings in place to ensure the general human population remains blithely clueless.

Victoria Wolfe is more than just a policewoman. She’s an undercover werewolf assigned by Necropolis Enforcement to work Prosaic City Police’s Night Beat. Victoria’s comfortable working the shift where all the weird comes out to play, especially since her partner is also her perfect man. Or would be, if Victoria could ever work up the nerve to tell him she isn’t like other girls.

It’s hard enough being a werewolf in disguise, but when a creature from the Depths of Hell shows up in an alley preferred by junkies, bums, and hookers, it’s going to take more than just Victoria’s special gun and werewolf skills to subdue the ancient Sumerian demon. Especially when the demon is merely the start of what appears to be a major takeover attempt by the Prince of Darkness.

Soon all of Necropolis Enforcement’s Undead Brigade is involved in the fight to stop the Prince’s Major Minions from taking over Prosaic City and the rest of the human plane. But it’s Victoria who has to face the Adversary and figure out what intricate plan Lucifer has up his wings before everyone she cares about is destroyed.

In other words, it’s just another day on the Night Beat.

MSpradlin-Blood RidersThere’s a new convention being developed in St. Augustine, Florida. The Olde City, New Blood con will feature a bunch of fabulous authors (at last count, there are 40 confirmed) and takes place in a truly gorgeous city. Plus it’s Florida in February. Did I forget to mention that? The first even Olde City, New Blood con will take place February 8-10, 2013. Registration is open.

Stumbling Over Chaos has another fabulous Misadventures in Stock Photography and there’s plenty of yummy eye candy in addition to Starey Glarey Guy (SGG).

There are a ton of books coming out this fall and The Library Journal has the top seven they are most anticipating. There are some fabulous authors on the list, including Jocelynn Drake’s Angel Ink, so if you’re wanting a peek, I would take a peek and who else is on the list.

If you’ve ever wanted to review books, Tynga’s Reviews is looking for a new reviewer and you don’t have to be Canadian to apply (this is a change from her previous posts).

Parajunkee’s View has posted two new Blogging 101 posts and these are ones you should really check out.  She’s talking about ARC Etiquette and Technical Issues and What Publishers Want and Pageview Goals.

It’s Random Acts of Kindness time again and the Book Soulmates have posted the signup sheet for July.  For those unfamiliar with the feature, the basic idea is to randomly send a book to someone who has signed up and hope that one gets sent back to you. Its a random act of kindness. *grin*

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
