Guest Author: Sharon Ashwood

Sharon AshwoodI am excited to welcome author Sharon Ashwood, who is celebrating the release of her two Horsemen novels, Possessed by a Warrior and Possessed by an Immortal.

Possessed by a Warrior
A dazzling dress is wreaking havoc—and costing lives…
The violent death of her uncle sends Chloe Anderson reeling—and rushing to his estate. As coexecutor of Jack’s will, she assumes that he has left her something. What she doesn’t expect is a bejeweled wedding gown with a note warning her to trust only his business partner—dark, mysterious and sexy Sam Ralston.

Chloe’s been burned in love, but never bitten, and there’s something about Sam that keeps drawing her in, despite her fears. The attraction is mutual, intense, and it takes all of Sam’s willpower to hide his fangs. With Chloe’s career at stake and murderous thieves hot on their trail, the vampire vows to protect her. But can he save her from himself?

Possessed by an Immortal
Can a mother in jeopardy melt the heart of a jaded vampire?
After witnessing a murder, Bree Meadows is on the run with her young son. But the bad guys are in hot pursuit. Dropped in the middle of nowhere amid a torrential thunderstorm, things look pretty grim. To make matters worse, her son is in desperate need of medical attention.

Mark Winspear has been alone for too long. When the vampire senses a gorgeous female nearby, he discovers that her swift, selfless courage pulls at his instincts. The doctor has history with the same men who are after Bree—and he’s ready for revenge. Working together now, they discover an attraction that might save them both—if they’re lucky.

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away a signed paperback of Possessed by an Immortal.

Young Vampire in Search of Career Advice: Try the Complaints Desk

SAshwood-Possessed by a WarriorDear Vlad:

I read your advice column every week. I hope you can help me. I am a young vampire trying to make his way in the big city and I can’t seem to get a break. There is so much competition! I mean, I got a leather jacket and I hang out in all the right places. I even tried going the classic route and putting on a fake accent. I do thousands of sit-ups and haven’t worn a shirt for months, and yet no one wants to put me in their book. What does an undead guy have to do to get noticed?

I hope you can help me because I don’t know who else to ask.

Your faithful reader,
Fanged but unloved

Dear Fanged,

Paranormal elements are here to stay—at least as part of literary fare. They’ve been fixtures of the English language tradition since Sir Gawain’s dust-up with the Green Knight. In recent years, the supernatural haunts our shelves more than ever. We’ve been hip deep in all manner of vamps, shifters, fey, and everything else from carnivorous bunnies to the Headless Horseman.

You’re right, it is hard to get noticed, and a six-pack and an attitude is welcome but hardly a ticket to your own castle in Transylvania. If you can’t do better than that, I’d recommend getting a job. Just think of the employment opportunities open to a young man with your skills. The complaints department, for instance. One dose of your vampire charm and the customer will forget why she came. Your clearance rate could be exceptional.

The point is, to be a great paranormal romantic hero, you have to deliver what readers want. You have to be a hero first, the perfect leading man, and at the heart of a great story. You have to make toes curl and pulses pound with your personality, not just your magnetic stare. Otherwise, someone’s bound to recommend an optometrist.

Once you have the important boxes checked, then the supernatural stuff comes into play. There has to be a real man beneath the opera cape. If you can’t live up to that, it’s better to head home and forget stardom. Take it from someone who knows, you don’t want to end up as the cartoon on a chocolate cereal box.

Good luck with the job hunt,
Vlad

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
