The third novel in Judi Fennell’s Merpeople series, Catch of a Lifetime is another fun addition that really had me wishing for warm weather so I could hit the beach.
She’s on a mission to save the planet…
Mermaid Angel Tritone has been researching humans from afar, hoping to find a way to convince them to stop polluting. When she jumps into a boat to escape a shark attack, it’s her chance to pursue her mission, but she has to keep her identity a total secret…When he finds out what she really is, they’re both in mortal danger…
For Logan Hardington, finding a beautiful woman on his boat is surely not a problem—until he discovers she’s a mermaid, and suddenly his life is on the line…
Being the third novel in a series, the world for Catch of a Lifetime is already set up and ready to go, but we’re given far more details than before. This time, we’re not dealing with having to introduce Atlantis to a couple of humans, but a Mer is being introduced to the human world. Angel, the youngest sister of Rod & Reel, has always been fascinated, but the new experiences she has with Logan and his son are a little more than what she was expecting. Seeing the various idiosyncrasies of the human world through the eyes of a Mer was not only amusing, but helped developed both Logan and Angel’s characters.
The one thing that I did like about Catch of a Lifetime was that the romance seemed realistic, even though it involves a mythical being. Girl gets dropped into boys life, boy find sudden attraction. In most romances, everything falls into place with a big bad dropping in to give the girl hell; but it doesn’t fall into place here. The two feel the attraction, but Logan is careful and doesn’t let a hot girl interfere with his life. Granted, this backfires on him, which is where our plot comes in, but it made reading about it more enjoyable. There wasn’t a sudden rush into a relationship, but very much a “let’s take this one day at a time” feeling.
Overall, Catch of a Lifetime was another great addition to Fennell’s series and I can only hope she plans to write more involving this great world. Not only is this a great series to read, but it’s a light and quick read, which is perfect for the upcoming summer months.

This sounds like a really interesting series. I love my paranormal & urban fantasy series but have never read anything with Mermaids before. I’m going to have to check this out & have added In Over Her Head to my wishlist :o)
So glad you enjoyed the story! I had a blast writing the series, and hope to include at least Mariana and Pearl’s stories after my genie series comes out beginning Jan 2011.
