First Drop of Crimson Contest!!

8 Jan 2010 | Submitted by: Jackie | 93 Comments |

I am a huge fan of Jeaniene Frost (if you haven’t guessed that already) and her forum is the only one I’m really active on.  So imagine my shock, surprised and excited face when I found a copy of First Drop of Crimson, the first novel in her Night Huntress World, in my mailbox.  I was giddy beyond belief.  I mean, seriously, doesn’t this sound amazing?

The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows—her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield—and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness—and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who lusts for a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human—even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the nightmare together . . .

Because once the first crimson drop falls, they will both be lost.

It’s Denise and Spade!  For those who have read the Night Huntress novels, both of these characters have appeared there and now we get to read their story.  I will tell you right now, First Drop of Crimson is fabulous.  Not only can it be read as a stand alone, but we’re introduced to demons and the ending is completely not what I was expecting.  I could go on, but I’ll save that for my review, which will go up closer to its release date of February 9th.

However, you’re probably wondering why I’m bringing this up, right?  If you thought I was happy when First Drop of Crimson first showed up, you should have seen my face when the second copy showed up.  That’s right, I have two ARCs of this gem sitting on my desk right now and I don’t need two of them.  So I’m going to give one away.

In order to get your hands on the wonderful novel that is First Drop of Crimson, all you have to do is answer this question: How did you find the Night Huntress novels and Jeaniene Frost?  Did someone introduce her to you?  Did you randomly come across her in the store (much like I did)?  If you haven’t read her yet, what is it about her novels that pique your interest? International entries are welcome, but shipping may be delayed a little! Meaning you might not get it before the release date.

As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat:

  • +1 for each place you post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.
  • +1 to any review you comment on, however, comments must be meaningful. Just give me the title of the review and I’ll be able to figure it out from there.
  • +1 Join the Literary Escapism Facebook page and/or follow LE on Twitter
  • +1 subscribe to Literary Escapism – either via a reader or email (see the RSS button at the bottom of the sidebar)
  • +10 purchase a copy of Halfway to the Grave, One Foot in the Grave, At Grave’s End, Destined for an Early Grave or any print novel through LE’s Amazon store sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: myjaxon AT gmail DOT com. Each purchase is worth ten entries, but it has to be through the LE Amazon Link.  If you buy all 4 books, that’ll be 40 entries.

There is one thing I am adding to my contests now…the winner must post a review of the novel someplace.  Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter.  Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until January 14th, at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer and the List Randomizer.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I came across Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress novels when i was making a purchase on Amazon. They always have the little arrow scroll thing that says ‘Customers who bought this item, also bought this” and i was looking at all the similar genre type books and spotted Jeaniene Frost’s novel. I’m glad i found them because it is one of the best series i have ever read. Gotta love Cat and Bones!

    Really excited to read FDOC!

I found the Night Huntress Series by looking at used books at Barnes&Noble. The tittle caught my eye (I’m a sucker for anything with the word grave in it;) and the next thing I know I’m at home wondering where and when I can get more Cat and Bones. Since then I’ve been obssessed with anything Jeaniene writes and I know that First Drop of Crimson will be no disappointment.

I read an excerpt from Halfway to the Grave from one of Susannze Ennoch’s books and was totally intrigued. The part where Cat was whistling while driving her pickup truck with the body of a dead vampire was so hilarious I decided I had to buy all of the series to see read more about Cat. I’ve read the books so many times the pages are beginning to fall apart. I can’t decide which book is my favorite. I just recycle the reading order every other week.

Night Huntress is the best para-romance series I’ve ever read and I’m so glad Jeaniene isn’t done yet. It will be a sad sad day when she closes the chapter on the Night Huntress world.

Cannot wait to get my hands on FDOC!

I came across Jeaniene Frost at my school library. It was the last two weeks of school and I wanted to read somethng, and I picked up One Foot in the Grave. I read it, loved it and wanted to find out what happened that led to Cat leaving Bone. So , I was going to Poland soon, so I needed to buy something to read. I bought Halfway to the Grave and At Grave’s End. Read HTTG about 20 times. Found out before leaving that Jeaniene soon after my leaving publishes another book, and once I came back I bought it. I’ve bben hooked on everything Paranormal Romance and Jeaniene Frost ever since, her books also helped me decide that YA novles miss out a lot of passion in a relationship.

Only the first two were out at the time, so I’ve been agonizing over the wait periods in between books ever since then. I love them sooooo much. They’re just a perfect blend of action and adventure and romance. Now I have a a book club full of ladies who’ve read them, and ended up buying the series for themselves, lol. I CAN NOT WAIT to get my hands on First Drop of Crimson!! Spade is such an interesting character, I love what we’ve seen of him so far in the series. And have you SEEN the cover!!! WOWZA!!

I was trolling the aisles of a Barnes & Nobel, desperately seeking an edgy, absorbing vampire book about a female hero who kicked butt. And there it was, Halfway to the Grave. The cover art grabbed me and after I read the jacket, I was completely sold. I couldn’t wait to get started so when I slid into a seat on a tightly packed subway car, I immediately stared to read. I howled when Cat approached Bones with her daring question, and I did not give a hoot that I drew strange looks from my fellow riders on the NYC subway. I’ve been on a fast moving train ever since and I refuse to get off. Next stop, First Drop of Crimson.

I randomly picked up One Foot in the Grave while shopping at Borders one day. I hadn’t really ventured into the romance section much, but figured I’d give it a shot because I loved the cover and the blurb sounded really cool. Of course, when I got home, I realized I had bought book #2, so I had to rush back out and get book #1 ASAP. I devoured them in about three days and then passed them on to my roommate.

I got hooked on Jeaniene’s books by fellow fans which I met on another author’s message board.
Someone from Jeaniene’s board came over to the Vicki Pettersson board and started talking smack to Vicki about how she had claimed Bones, some old inside joke, apparently.
This created an uproar amongst the members of the board that knew of the character.
I had to investigate further, and figure out more about this “Bones” character.
I went out and picked up the first book and tore lovingly through it, fiending for the next one.
    I’m now officially hooked.

(This contest has been pimped on the Vicki Pettersson board!) :)

  • Debi Murray said:

Vicki Pettersson told me about a new author(Jeaniene Frost)and her first book a few years ago. Jeaniene sent me a signed bookplate for ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE and once I read the first book, I was hooked on this series. She deserves to be on the NYT, her story telling is wonderful. I only hope that her publisher will make a very wise choice and allow her to tell us Vlad’s story…after Mencheres’ story and the next Cat&Bones book of course.

And it was a complete stumble, or as I like to think of it, some sort of divine intervention leading me to Cat & Bones.lol :)

The bookshops in my area (or maybe all england) don’t really stock Paranormal/romance, Urban fanstasy etc. It’s only really mainstream authors like Charlaine Harris, Christine Feehan and sherrilyn kenyon as well as a few others, so I’m always browsing the net lookign for books and reading excerpts. (which I why I love Literary Escapism so much, it’s all under one roof! Lol)

Anyway (before I discovered literary Escapism) I was looking on Kim Harrisons site, pining for the next Hollows novel and looking for something to read. She has a whole list of books (now ‘people I know’ http://www.kimharrison.net/Links.htm) and links to the authors. I clicked on all of them, and the excrept of Halfway to the Grave had me so invested, I ordered from Amazon straight away. Since then, I’ve been pining for the next Night Huntress novel. The only bad thing was that I’d have to wait for the release of One Foot In the Grave, but sometime before the third book came out, I joined Jeaniene’s forum (FrostFans, http://www.frostfans.com/forums/) and found people just as crazy as me waiting for the next book! Lol.

P.s, Sorry for the essay! :D

I ran across the first Night Huntress book while browsing at Barnes and Noble. I have to admit, I sometimes do judge a book by it’s cover-literally. But I do absolutely love the series and I can’t wait to read more!

I have Destined for an Early Grave, but haven’t read it yet because I’m still trying to get my hands on the earlier books in the series first. The thing that made me buy it? I’d heard a few good reviews about Jeaniene’s writing and I came by at a store, so I decided to give it a shot.

I came across Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress books through being a fan of Melissa Marr. I was such a huge Marr fan, that I read her blog religiously maybe 9-10 months ago. Seeing as Frost is Marr’s crit partner, Marr mentioned her and her novels enough to get me interested. I checked them out on Amazon, liked the sound, and book mooched the first – and fell in love! Jeaniene Frost is now right up their with my favourite authors! I love her novels!

i first discovered Jeaniene’s books while trying to find something new to read. I saw the cover art for One foot in the grave at the book store. I sat down and began to read and just became enthralled with it that I bought the series. I went home and finished both book in one day.

OMG. You have no idea how much I would *love* an ARC of FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON.

I came across Jeaniene’s books while browsing the recommendations list on Amazon. You know the “if you liked this book, check out this book” I went a head and bought all three that was out. Halfway to the Grave, One Foot in the Grave, and At Grave’s End. When they arrived I read them in two days! Could not put them down. They’re my first choice of recommendation now.

I randomly ran across her very first book at the lovely Walden’s that use to be in Rockefeller concourse. Why do I love it so much because its told from the view point of a woman that truly doesn’t understand the beauty she is inside and out. It is written in a manner in which you can see this beauty through the interaction of the other characters. Its killing me to have to wait until next year for the next installment. I am glad First Drop is coming out to help with the long wait plus I love Spade.

What a great contest! My friend, Robyn, turned me onto Jeaniene a few months ago. I have since read the Night Huntress series twice and have bought every anthology that Jeaniene has had a short story in. She is by far my favorite author and the Night Huntress series is the best vampire series I have ever read. I’ve always been obsessed with vampires and her vampire world is just amazing and the sex? It is the hottest sex hands down. I can’t wait to get into the Night Huntress World books and look forward to reading more about Spade. I even look forward to reading about Mencheres even though I don’t much care for him. I would be completely thrilled if Jeaniene did a book about Vlad as he is my second favorite character (my favorite being Bones) but I will take what I can get.

I got addicted to Cat & Bones and the rest of the world when I got an ebook series of the first three books. I was hooked and I’ve read all four more times than any other book (including those sparkly vamps lol) I love that the characters are real, they screw up, they kick butt and there’s romance, humor, and action all wrapped up in a dysfunctionally perfect world.

I found the Night Huntress series by accident. I kept seeing Cat & Bones mentioned every where I read it seemed. After hitting Ms. Frost’s website (from Kim Harrison’s blog I think) I had to get the books. Thank goodness I purchased all 4 at once because I read them all in 2 days and had to reread them again I inhaled them so quickly. This series has surpassed all my previous expectations and jumped Ms. Frost to the head of my must read authors list.
