About LE

Welcome to my alternate reality. Escaping into new worlds, meeting new characters and exploring different societies is the only way we have of leaving the harsh reality of life behind us…if only for a little bit.

Reviewers

Jackie M. (and occasionally Jesse M.)

Biopic.Morgan.02I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a very supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. After over six years, I’m starting to wonder if I simply traded one insanity for another, but I wouldn’t dream of changing a thing. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

Jesse shares my love of reading, however, not so much the reviewing process (although that doesn’t stop him when he really wants to talk about a certain book). However, without his help, there’s no way I would be able to keep this site running.  Quite literally as he handles all the backend server/technical stuff that I’m completely clueless about. He’s always there to bounce ideas off of and patiently listens whenever I go off on a tangent about books and/or LE. *grin*

Want something great to read, here is what I would recommend.

Nicole P.

NicoleHi, I’m Nicole and I’m from Kentucky. In my spare time, I read a LOT, tweet, garden and spend time with friends and family…though not necessarily in that order *wink*.

I’m super excited to be a part of the LE team as an Assistant Editor and PT reviewer. Generally I read romance and urban fantasy as well as paranormal YA books. The subgenre sets of romance I tend to gravitate towards are paranormal, romantic suspense, erotic/erotica and some contemporaries by a few select authors. I am totally addicted to books. I do love my Nook and Kindle but I still love having books in print and am hoping one day there will be print/ebook bundles.

What I would recommend: I’m a huge Jeaniene Frost fan and her Night Huntress series is my all time favorite series, with Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series being a close second, cause well, who can pick just one book/series? ;) If you’ve read the Night Huntress series, then you know what I mean when I say Bones is my hero and I want more Chapter 32 *G*. If you haven’t read the series yet, I cannot recommend more vehemently that you immediately pick it up and put it at the top of your TBR stack.

Casey H-P.

CaseyWell, I’m Casey and recently I have come to realized that I’m the baby of LE because I’m an early 20-something. I’ve been reading for as long as I can remember (thanks, Mom) and I’m one of those girls who started reading romance novels way too early (unknown to Mom for at least a few years). I’m not picky about what I read, as long as it can keep me interested. I’m currently putting myself through college so that maybe one day I can get a career that lets me read and/or write all day long. I have a part time job at the public library (I absolutely LOVE my job. I mean, what’s not to love about being around books all day?) which is paying for said college education. When I’m not reading, writing or surrounded by books, I can be found serenading the world (though the world doesn’t seem to enjoy it as much as I do) or parked in front of the T.V. watching the oh so cheesy, atrociously acted, SyFy horror movies.

What/Who I would recommend (in no order): Christine Feehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, Mercedes Lackey, Michelle Rowen, Gail Carriger, Kelley Armstrong, Kim Harrison, Karen Marie Moning, Lloyd Alexander, Meg Cabot, Patricia Briggs, Julie Kagawa, Lemony Snicket, Jeaniene Frost, E. D. Baker, Linda Howard, Rachel Caine, L. J. McDonald, Madeleine L’Engle, Ursula K Le Guin, Diana Wynne Jones, Daniel Waters, and many, many others.

Natassia V.

BioPic.Natassia.01I’m Natassia and I’m a 22 year old New Yorker. My night job is being a performer, mainly as a freelance oboist and classical singer.

I’m stoked to join LE as a Fantasy/SciFi/Steampunk reviewer! A hardcore gamer, film buff, and reader, I embrace elements of all three. For me, a truly immersive world is one I should be able to read about, watch and play in. I’ve spent many a day traversing the Fantasy worlds of the past, the future and the paradoxical alternate history.

I enjoy everything from cars to Beethoven, zombies to moliere. Most importantly I enjoy history and adventure, making both in true epic fashion. I also enjoy meeting new people and can always be tempted by a good conversation on Google+. Don’t be afraid to hit me up!

My great reading recommendations are varied and incomplete. Some are: Moliere, Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, but in my reviewing genres, and in no particular order: Martin Millar; Benedict Jacka – theAlex Verus novels; Cherie Priest – Clockwork Century; Marie Brennan – Onyx Court; Connie Willis – Blackout and All Clear; Gregory Maguire – Wicked Years; Gail Carriger – Parasol Protectorate; Neil Gaiman; H.P Lovecraft; Justina Robson – Quantum Gravity; Justin Cronin – Passage; and Simon Morden – Samuil Petrovitch trilogy.

Sarah M.

BioPic.Sarah.01Hi, all! I am 30-something mother of a teenage (going on 30) daughter, and I LOVE to read (of course!). Depending on my schedule, I read between 4-8 books a week. Between work, chauffeur responsibilities, and reading, I don’t have much free time. However, I do like to knit and crochet in the winter (quality scarves and hats are highly underrated!).

My favorite genres are urban fantasy, contemporary romance, and paranormal romance. I tend to binge read when I find a great new series, so I love to discover new-to-me series that already have several books out.

It’s difficult to recommend an author or series (that’s liking picking favorites!), but I do have a several authors that are on my auto-buy list: Tiffany Reisz, Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison, Jennifer Estep, Kit Rocha, Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward, Dakota Cassidy, Seanan Maguire, Jaye Wells, J.C. Daniels, Nalini Singh, Gena Showalter, and Jill Shalvis. That’s only a quick list, and I’m sure that I’ve missed naming some other favorites. LE Escapists

Nikki B

NikkiBHey hey! My name is Nikki, and as Jackie seems to collect Nicole’s up in this joint, I’ve been dubbed ~Nikki B~ to quell the confusion! I hail from the state of New York not in the fun, thriving & never sleeping NYC, but the more oft neglected Upstate NY. I work full time as a social worker. I was elated to recently be elected for a 3 year term as a Board Trustee for my local Public Library. And I endlessly dote on my furbaby Lola!

When I am not working, I live and breathe all things books. I’ve been a book nerd all of my life. I couldn’t even begin to try and pinpoint the day I fell in love with reading, but any of my friends & family will tell you my nose was/is ALWAYS stuck in a book, they even briefly initiated a bag check at certain family events to confiscate my reading material! (oh the nerve they have) My go-to genres are Urban Fantasy, Dystopian/Sci-Fi and New Adult.

It’s hard to narrow down favorites but my tippy top series recommendations would be – Anything & everything by Ilona Andrews but start with the Kate Daniels series, Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder, Iron Seas by Meljean Brook, Sirantha Jax by Ann Aguirre, In Death by J.D. Robb, Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost, Allie Beckstrom by Devon Monk, The Black Jewels by Anne Bishop, Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins, Slammed by Colleen Hoover and lastly everyone just has to read Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling – it’s legit magical! (in case you didn’t know ;) )

I’m thrilled to join the LE team as admin assistant, especially the part where I get to play Santa and hand out free books & stuff! You can find me on Twitter and Goodreads.
