The First Buntline

The latest New Author Mini Challenge kicked off last week and there is still plenty of time to join in.  For the month of June, we’re focusing on those first novels – the débutantes, the virgins, the first-timers.  Those novels by authors who are just starting out in the publishing world, have branched out into a new genre or have taken the plunge into a new world/series.  So go raid that TBR stack/shelf, you might find something that will work.

Interviews:

Are you eagerly awaiting the fourth Casa Dracula novel, Haunted Honeymoon, by Marta Acosta?  Do you need a Milagro fix?  You’re in luck!  Marta has just posted the first draft (aka Monster Motel) of the second novel, Midnight Brunch at Casa Dracula, and I guess there were a bunch of changes between that version and the published one.

Wicked Little Pixie has a fabulous list of June releases.

Io9 has the trailer for the first installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which showcased at the MTV Movie Awards. The beginning of the end hits theaters November 19, 2010.

The Weekly Geeks are asking what is currently on everyone’s wishlist: Is your wishlist as big as your TBR pile? What books are topping your list? Are there any new releases that you are counting down the days for?

Check out one of the gorgeous covers Lurv a la Mode has unearthed from Pyr.  There are quite a few that look like they are going to be good (The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack especially).

For more cover goodness, head over to Dark Faerie Tales and Babbling About Books where more hot covers are being showed off.

Subterreanean Press announced a new anthology titled Subterranean: Tales of Dark Fantasy Volume 2. The collection will include stories from Joe Hill, Kelley Armstrong, James P. Blaylock and Tim Powers, Steven R. Boyett, Glen Cook, Caitlin R. Kiernan, Jay Lake and Shannon Page, K. J. About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Hi, Jackie, thanks for mention my free draft. Yes, now you too can read the manuscript my editor thought was a bit meh! I have no idea if she’s right or not. I simply lack the perspective to judge and I don’t like comparing a final book to the initial draft. I hope someone gets some entertainment from Monster Motel, though.
