Bloody Bones by LK Hamilton

The fifth novel in Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series is Bloody Bones. In it, Anita finds herself going to Branson Missouri to raise a mass grave. While she is there, she is called in to give her opinion on a vampire kill. After giving her opinion, she is kicked out of the investigation. That’s a first for her. She’s never been kicked out of a preternatural crime before. She’s not sure if she likes it, but she can’t really complain because no one cares. Even though she isn’t suppose to be participating, Anita brings in Jean-Claude so she can talk to the Master of the City of the area she is in. After all, if it’s a vampire that is killing people, the vamps want to know. They can’t exactly have the bad publicity right now. However, instead of getting a vampire that is aware of the current conditions, she gets is her worse nightmare.

I could go on and give you a summary of the plot line, but that would be wasting your time as well as mine. If I was to do that, I would be giving away more than what I have already done and then what motivation would you have to read the book. This is the fifth review I’ve done within the last three days and it’s starting to get hard to write them. So this is what I’m going to do. I liked the book. Hamilton seems to be making the books bigger and she isn’t holding anything back. She’s giving us an imaginative story without any unnecessary words and without boring the reader to tears with lots of description. She is descriptive, but you have to be when you’re trying to get the lay of the land. She’s bringing in more characters (only to kill them off) while at the same time broadening the characters she already has. You can tell which characters will be back, because she begins to give us little details that show who they are individually.

All I can say about this novel is, go out and get it. Well, get the first four first and then read this one. The series is only getting better and seriously, you really don’t want to pick this up halfway through the series. You could, but why not enjoy the time Hamilton spends on expanding her characters and developing side story lines that continue where the last book stops?

I will do this though, to read an excerpt from Bloody Bones, click here.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
