Contest: Waking the Witch by K. Armstrong

Got a question for you.  What is better than finding a copy of Kelley Armstrong’s Waking the Witch in the mail?  How about two copies?  Thanks to the generous people at Wunderkind PR, I get to give away an ARC of Waking the Witch – this is one of those times when I love what I do.

At twenty-one, Savannah Levine-orphaned daughter of a notorious dark witch and an equally notorious cutthroat sorcerer-considers herself a full-fledged member of the otherworld. The once rebellious teen has grown into a six-foot-tall, motorcycle-riding jaw-dropper, with an impressive knowledge of and ability to perform spells. The only problem is, she’s having a hard time convincing her adoptive parents, Paige and Lucas, to take her seriously as an adult. She’s working as the research assistant at the detective agency they founded, and when they take off on a romantic vacation alone, leaving her in charge, Savannah finds herself itching for a case to call her own. (She’s also itching for Adam, her longtime friend and colleague, to see her as more than just a little girl, but that’s another matter.)

Suddenly, Savannah gets the chance she’s been waiting for: Recruited by another supernatural detective, she travels to Columbus, Washington, a small, dying town. Two troubled young women have been found in an abandoned warehouse, murdered. Now a third woman’s dead, and on closer inspection small details point to darker forces at play. Savannah feels certain she can handle the case, but with signs of supernatural activity appearing at every turn, things quickly become more serious- and far more dangerous-than she realizes.

Waking the Witch is the eleventh novel in Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series and I’ve been told you could read this as a stand alone.  Granted, reading the previous novels will give you a little more character development on a few of the supporting members (or so I’m assuming), but if you’ve been wanting to try this series, why not start now?

So how do you enter?  Easy.  As with all of LE’s contests, all you have to do is answer this question:  Who is your favorite character from Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series and why?  If you haven’t read the series, what is it about the series that makes you want to?

In order to enter, you have to answer the above question(s).  As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat (these aren’t mandatory to enter, just extra entries for anyone who really wants to win):

  • +1 for each place you post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.
  • +1 to any review you comment on, however, comments must be meaningful. Just give me the title of the review and I’ll be able to figure it out from there.
  • +1 for entering Loucinda McGary’s contest for a copy of The Wild Irish Sea.  (contest has ended)
  • +1 for entering Kathryne Kennedy’s contest for a copy of The Fire Lord’s Lover.
  • +1 If you are a follower of Literary Escapism on Facebook and/or Twitter
  • +10 Purchase any novel through LE’s Amazon store or the Book Depository sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: jackie AT literaryescapism DOT com. Each purchase is worth ten entries.

There is one thing I am adding to my contests now…the winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until July 20th, at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer and the List Randomizer.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  2. I haven’t read the books yet. My daughter highly recommends them so I guess I will get on it. Count me in for the contest though!

  3. Jeremy, because he is cool, level headed and doesn’t rush into things. What makes this one of my favorite series is that as soon as I finished Bitten I was able to actually discuss it with Kelley Armstrong. My wife and I were attending a book convention in 2005 and the following morning after finishing the book, we went to a special breakfast she had set up for some of her readers. She was gracious and funny, answering all of the questions from the small group, less than 10 people, and made a very special memory for us.

  4. As the wife to Ron, the poster above, I second his opinion and reason for Kelley Armstrong being one of our fav authors and the special place Bitten will always have with us. That is why Elena is still my favorite of her characters because as I say when recommending her books to others; she brought an honesty to Elena in how she felt and dealt with being the only female werewolf that I hadn’t seen before.

  5. I love this series. I don’t know which character I’d say is my favorite. I like them all for different reasons. I love the stories with Paige and her family and how they are dealing with Lucas family and Savannah growing up.

I love the wolves with Elena and Clay but I guess I really like Jeremy the best of the wolves. He is a good leader. has a quite calm about him and doesn’t rattle easy. And now he has Jamie.

There are so many good characters with rich story lines in this series.

I would glady post a review at Everybody Needs a Little Romance blog. II post reviews on our site ever other Friday and on weekends.

  6. I haven’t read any of her books, but my sister says they’re great and I should begin reading them as soon as possible because I’m going to the Fanexpo convention in Toronto in august and Kelly will be there; so hopefully, it would be nice to meet her and tell her how much me and my sister both really enjoy her work.

  7. I definitly like Elena best. She’s so kick-butt, real, independent, and resourceful that I honestly can’t believe anyone who says they don’t like her at least a little bit. I think that she’s the character most like me, only so much awesomer. I really like the way Ms. Armstrong writes her character, because even though she’s a werewolf, she still faces real problems.

  8. My library does not have the women of the otherworld series so I am saving my pennies to start buying them. I have enjoyed the other books Kelley Armstrong has written and look forward to reading her otherworld series

  9. I like Elena and Clay the most. I’m not really sure why though! They’re the reason why I like werewolves though. Before I read this series I wasn’t fond of weres at all.

  10. Who is your favorite character from Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series and why?

Oh, I ahve so many! Of course I LOVE Elena, she is such a complex and interesting charcter! Love how stubborn and feisty and strong she is. And of course I LOVE reading about her tempestuous and passionate relationship with Clay! :-D Then there is Zoe who only made a minor appearance but she was stellar :-D

Thank you for this giveaway, I yearn to finally read Waking the Witch! :-)

  11. i started with elena and she continues to be my fav!

i’m a follower on facebook but i’m not sure how to the other things.

  12. Of course my favorite character is Elena. She took a bad situation and turned it into a happy life. As the (future) head of the pack she is very strong but also has a strong man to back her up. She’s also a mom which shows you can have it all. Having said that, I like almost all of the Women of the Underworld, they all have their good points and I love the way Ms. Armstrong creates the characters and portrays their lives. Many thanks to her for the great stories!

  13. I think Jaime is my favourite characters alongside Savannah. Jaime because even though she doesn’t have kick-ass powers she stills manages to get the job done and then she went after her man holding nothing back and at the end she got what she wished for.
