Without a doubt Kresley Cole is one of my favorite authors. But her novella, The Warlord Wants Forever, left me wanting something more.
I’ll be the first to admit it – I just love those big, hunky, Alpha men who know exactly what they want and won’t stop in their quest to get it. They make the best heroes; especially when they have an emotional depth that very few real men actually acknowledge. While that characterization aptly describes Nikolai Worth from Kresley Cole’s novella The Warlord Wants Forever, he just wasn’t that perfect man. There were certain scenes when his thoughts and actions seemed completely unrealistic.
His bride, Myst the Coveted, seemed to care more for her wants and needs than his throughout most of the story. At some points, it felt like they were two wet puzzle cardboard pieces that didn’t quite fit together. That’s not to say that they were incompatible. In fact, when they finally got together, it was bone melting hot.
Unfortunately, that seemed to be the plot of the novella – for Nikolai and Myst to fall in love with a random fight scene thrown in at the end. I love a good love story, and like I said before, Kresley Cole is one of my favorite authors, but this novella just wasn’t quite on par with the rest of her works. If there had been more to the plotline and more time to develop the characters, then The Warlord Wants Forever would have been an instant favorite for me.

I agree with you on the shortness and lack of development of The Warlord Wants Forever, but wasn’t it originally written as a short story?
I’ve read all of her currently published books, and she seems to follow a similar pattern, but they tend to be better developed, as well as longer. I believe the next one comes out in about a week?

I wonder too if it’s because it’s the first one– I’m not sure but didn’t the series start with this short story/novella? I wonder if she fleshed it out more as she realized it could be not only a book but a series. I know when I looked this up before it was an early writing for her.
How was the rest of the book. I also love Kenyon and Black!
