Vamps and the City by K. Sparks

The second novel in Kerrelyn Sparks Love at Stake series, Vamps and the City involved an interesting plot idea. Roman, the male lead from How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, kicked out his harem in order to marry Shanna; now his old harem is looking for a new master. Darcy, the youngest of the girls, wants to get back into entertainment and comes up with the brilliant idea of “The Worlds Sexiest Man on Earth” for the exclusive all-vampire network. Kind of like the Bachelor meets vampire culture. Instead of getting one male, the winner will get the entire harem. Darcy throws in a twist unbeknowst to the girls…the contestant pool is spiked with mortals. Let’s just say that it gets kind of interesting to see superior minded vampires try and figure out who the mortals are.

I actually kind of liked this one more than How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire. Yes there was more romance than action in this novel, but it was done really well, plus the twist of adding in mortals was kind of fun. There was a lot of character development, especially in the female vampires. There was definitely a women liberation undertone, but not in a preachy kind of way.

Overall, I liked this novel. It was a little lighter and I was able to go through it quickly. Not because it was a fast read, but because it seemed harder to put down than the first one (which I guess would mean it’s a fast read). The plot flowed well and there really wasn’t anything that dragged the story down. I’m getting excited about this series now. The second one is just as good as the first one and neither of them have the same elements. One had more action while the other had more romance. There’s something for everyone.
