Weekly Geeks v9.1: Favorite Sites

Welcome back Weekly Geeks!  It’s the first post since the passing of Dewey (and of the new year hence the new count) and in her memory, the WG Team is asking us to talk about some of our favorite bloggers…

In the spirit of the amazing community building that Dewey was so good at, tell us about your favorite blogs, the ones you have bookmarked or subscribe to in your Google Reader, that you visit on a regular basis. Tell us what it is about these blogs that you love, that inspire or educate you or make you laugh. Be sure to link to them so we can find them too.

There are a ton of great blogs out there and it’s so hard to keep up with them.  That’s pretty much the reason my Google Reader has over a 100 blogs on it.  However, there are a few that I keep in my RSS feeder and I am always looking forward to what they have to say.

One that I recently started watching is SciFiGuy.  You would think he handles more science fiction, but he’s been doing a lot of paranormal fiction lately and he’s given me a lot of great recommendations too.  He also tends to validate other recommendations that I’ve received. I can also count on him to find anything interesting in the publishing word.  Whether it’s new cover art or other articles on random topics, he has yet to post anything that I haven’t gotten intrigued with.

Then there is always Amberkatze’s Book Blog.   I can always count on a great recommendation from her and she’s probably tripled my TBR list since I’ve started reading her site early last year.  The two of us seem to have pretty similar tastes in novels and it’s really rare that I don’t like a book she’s recommended. She has also introduced me to some fabulous authors.  I can say that for a fact since I just finished Justin Gustainis’ Morris & Chastain series and I would never have picked it up if it hadn’t noticed her initial review of Black Magic Woman last year.  Amber has also been a huge help whenever I have any questions regarding this whole book review gig.  She’s always willing to answer my questions.

One that I’m insanely jealous of is Darque Reviews.  Kimberly always seems to get her hands on the novels I’ve been dying to read.  Plus, I know that if I’m questioning whether I really want to read something, she rarely leads me wrong.  If she says it’s good or worth the read, then it generally tends to be.

Another site, one that has been with me since the beginning of this venture, is Alpha Heroes.  Nicola’s not around as often as I am, but when she is, I can always count on a good recommendation or an interesting discussion (did you see her last one? Hilarious.).

Another site that I’m always checking out is American Bibliophile. While we really don’t have the same preference in novels, that doesn’t mean that we haven’t read any of the same novels, and I’m always interested to see what she thinks.  Plus, you can totally blame her for getting me hooked on book reviewing.  I actually started off over at AmBib a few years back before I started Literary Escapism.

I seriously have a dozen other blogs I watch, but so I don’t take up too much room sprouting out their laurels, I’ll just give you a run down…

  • Vampire Wire is always there whenever I need to know what’s going on in the vampire culture.
  • Urban Fantasy Land has all the latest news on anything UF and has some really good resources for finding new authors or film projects.
  • Bitten by Books offers so many reviews that I’m going to need a month straight to go through them all.
  • Sidhe Vicious Book Reviews is another place with some great reviews and interviews.  And it always seems like Judi has some kind of contest going on.  Although, she has been a little slow lately, but the holidays are over, so I’m expecting that to start appearing again.
  • Sam’s Book Blog is another one that has been with me from the beginning.
  • Paranormality is an a great site to find new authors. Lynda is constantly having guest bloggers and there have been a lot that I haven’t been familiar with.
  • Tez Says has also been amusing to read.

So those are the sites I have a particular fondness for.  I watch their sites daily for whatever tidbits they want to throw our way and I’m never disappointed with what they offer.  So what sites do you guys like to watch?

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Thanks Jackie you are making me blush over here and I think you know my thoughts about Literary Escapism are reciprocated. Our tastes and preferences seem to align quite a bit. There are only 3 blogs in your review I am not subscribing to and I will definitely be going to check them out.

  2. Aw, thanks for thinking of my ramblings as “amusing”. Not all of them are, but if I happen to be blogging when in sleepy/silly mode… ;-)

    Have a lovely day! :-)
