Heir to the Shadows by A. Bishop

Oh my god! I have a 14 month old son and I just finished a 482 in one day. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I could not put this novel down. Heir to the Shadows, the second novel in Anne Bishop’s Black Jewels trilogy, was amazing. There wasn’t as many romantic elements in this novel, but they weren’t needed. The fantasy elements were dead on and never seemed far-fetched. As it was the second novel in the trilogy, it continued to build the atmosphere, the characters, and even the interactions between the villains and the heroes. The ending to Heir to the Shadows was definitely a catalyst for the final novel, Queen of the Darkness.

This trilogy/series has yet to disappoint me and it continually sucks me in. The vivid descriptive imagery leaves the mind with more pictures and more sensations that have trouble turning off when the novel is put down. The more into her novels I get, the more I kick myself for not reading Anne Bishop before. If you’re still unsure about this author, and you like the Weiss & Hickman Dragonlance novels, then you need to pick these books up. While I’m a fan of Weiss & Hickman, Bishop does such a tremendous job that she far surpasses them in my mind.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
