4 Hot New Covers

Today must have been the day to release covers because I have come across four that are hot.

The first cover is for Lauren Dane’s Laid Bare. It comes out August 4, 2009 and I’m not sure if it’s the third novel in the Federation series (Undercover and Relentless), but the blurb makes it sound good.

Unexpected Desire…

It’s been ten years since clean-cut, sexy-as-hell police officer Todd Keenan had a white-hot fling with Erin Brown, the provocative, wild rocker chick next door. Their power exchange in the bedroom got under his skin. But love wasn’t in the cards just yet…

Now, life has thrown the pair back together. But picking up where they left off is tough, in light of a painful event from Erin’s past. As Todd struggles to earn her trust, their relationship takes an unexpected and exciting turn when Todd’s best friend, Ben, ends up in their bed—and all three are quite satisfied in this relationship without a name. As the passion they share transforms Erin, will it be enough to help her face the evil she thought she had left behind?

The next set of covers are for a new series by Chloe Neill called Chicagoland Vampires. I’ve been seeing this around the blogosphere lately and it’s continually intriguing me. The first novel, Some Girls Bite, comes out April 27, 2009 and the second novel, Friday Night Bites, comes out in October. Here’s the blurb for these:

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it was mine. I was doing fine until Chicago’s vampires announced their existence to the world-and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker… and this one decided the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Turns out my savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now I’ve traded sweating over my thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan “Lord o’ the Manor” Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four hundred year old vampire, he has centuries’ worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects my gratitude-and servitude. Right…

But my burgeoning powers (all of a sudden, I’m surprisingly handy with some serious weaponry), an inconvenient sunlight allergy, and Ethan’s attitude are the least of my concerns. Someone’s still out to get me. Is it the rogue vampire who bit me? A vamp from a rival House? An angry mob bearing torches?  My initiation into Chicago’s nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war-and there will be blood.

Vamps in Chicago!

You’d think headlines like that would have provoked the fine citizens of the Windy City to take up arms against us bloodsucking fiends. Instead, ten months later, we’re enjoying a celebrity status reserved for the Hollywood elite—fending off paparazzi only slightly less dangerous than cross and stake-wielding slayers. Don’t get me wrong, Joe Public isn’t exactly thrilled to be living side-by-side with the undead, but at least they haven’t stormed the castle yet.

But all that will change once they learn about the Raves—mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle and drink themselves silly. Most civilized vampires frown on this behavior, putting mere mortals at ease with their policy of asking a person’s consent before taking a big gulp of the red stuff. However, that doesn’t make good copy for a first time reporter looking to impress his high society family.

The last one is for Phaedra Weldon’s Phantasm, which is due out June 2, 2009. It’s the third novel in a series, Zoë Martinique Investigations, that I’ve been hearing a lot about lately.  I can’t find anything on the Phantasm, so I’m going to include the blurb from the first novel, Wraith, as a teaser for the series.

Zoe Martinique has turned her unusual ability into a career. When she’s traveling, she can’t be seen which makes her an ideal professional snoop. Industrial espionage, surveillance, whatever. But one night things get out of hand while she’s outof- body. She witnesses a murder and a soul stealing, and discovers she has unwelcome company: Trench- Coat, a ghostly killer who can see and hurt her.

Teaming up with a blue-eyed police detective, she tries to solve the case and improve her love life. She also enlists the support of her psychic mother and the ghostly couple who haunt her house. And with murderers, kidnappers, and a desperate ex-porn star involved, Zo’ needs all the help she can get.

So those are the novels that have been catching my eye lately. All six of them will be added to my TBR stack once I get the one I have down to a managable level.  Which I am hoping will be before my birthday in February.

So, I’ve shown you mine, what have you found that’s been interesting you that is due out soon?

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. No, it’s not another Federation novel: it’s a contemporary erotic romance (instead of a futuristic erotic romance like the others are).

    Have a lovely day! :-)

  2. Didn’t know about the new Weldon novel. Nice. Zoe is a unique character because she is mute which is seemingly an interesting writing challenge when you consider dialogue. Love this series.

  3. Thanks for the link! I’m glad you’re intrigued. :)

(And the pub date is actually April 7, so you’ll get a peek a little earlier than you thought!)
