Escapist Newsletter (Vol. 2 Issue 4)

I’ve been thinking…I do this monthly updates/newsletter where I go through all of my authors websites and get their latest news and put it all in one location. It really needs a name, don’t you think? So what should I call these posts? I could so something like the Escapist Newsletter or Literary Update, but that doesn’t sound right and I’m not sure if I want it to be a play on my Literary Escapism. Anyone have any better suggestions? (edit: I decided to call them Escapist).Alright, on to the news. First off, let’s start with May’s new releases.

Diana Gabaldon is going to be making an appearance at Friends of the Public Library on May 23rd, which I want to say, is located near her in Arizona. She’ll also be at the Arizona Highland Festival in July 19th. She is also the Guest of Honor at this years Conestoga which takes place July 25-27. I know there are a bunch of other authors going to be there, so this will be quite an event.

Ilona Andrews will be making an appearance in Savannah, GA at the Barnes & Noble on May 10th. They also have a new excerpt up for In the Name of the Realm. I really haven’t heard too much about it yet, and there’s no release date yet, so once I do hear something, I’ll let everyone know.

Jacquelyn Frank now has a forum for her fans. Maybe I’ve missed it, but I didn’t realize she had one. Karen Chance did assure us that there is another Cassandra Palmer novel in the works. There isn’t a working title yet, but it’s due to be released sometime in April 2009.

The Romantic Times Convention was about a week ago and Jeaniene Frost’s Halfway to the Grave won the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award for best urban fantasy. This was her first novel (I believe), so that is exciting for her. I know from reading her forum that she is still floating on cloud nine. Jeaniene also has a couple of interviews up – one at Marta Acosta’s site and at Urban Fantasy Fan. One more bit of good news for Frost fans, the third novels title was announced on her forum. At Grave’s End will be coming out early next year.

We’re given a little more information on Kelley Armstrong’s new novel, Living with the Dead, due out this November. Here’s a blurb from her website:

When Robyn Peltier—a very human PR rep—is framed for murder, the two people most determined to clear her name are half-demon tabloid reporter Hope Adams, and necromancer homicide detective John Findlay. And suddenly Robyn finds herself in the heart of a world she never knew existed—and which she is safer knowing nothing about….

Kim Harrison has a 30 minute interview posted on her website plus a streaming video of her live TV shot on Showcase Minnesota & Whatever. Harrison also has an interview with Blogcritics Magazine.

Laurell K. Hamilton’s The Harlequin should be out in paperback as of the 28th of April. So if you’ve been waiting for it, now you can get it. Some sad news, the release date for the latest Merry Gentry novel, Swallowing Darkness, was pushed back to November 8th (check out the cover, ooh shiny!). It’s only about a weeks difference, so not too bad. However, the paperback of A Lick of Frost will still be out October 28th. Issue 10 of the Guilty Pleasures graphic novel is now out and if you haven’t check them out yet, you need to. They are awesome! Issue 11 will be out May 14th and issue 12 will be out June 18th.

In case you want to plan for it way ahead of time, MaryJanice Davdison will be making an appearance at Cooper Con in Arizona, which is August 29th-31st. If you live in Missoula, MT, then you might want to check out Miscon (May 23-26), where Patricia Briggs will be making an appearance. Sherrilyn Kenyon is going to be at the Pagan Unity Festival in Burns, TN May 15th-18th. I was looking at her tour schedule, and at one time, I thought it said she was going to be coming to Ann Arbor, Mi, but I don’t see a listing for that. Hopefully that just means there isn’t a location settled on, so keep your fingers crossed.

Nalini Singh has won some awards lately. Her novel, Caressed by Ice, won for Best Paranormal by the 2007-8 AAR Poll and a Fantasm Award for Best Psychic Romance. Her novella, Beat of Temptation, (which I have totally missed) won the Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best Novella and Best Short Story at the 2007-8 AAR Poll. So congrats to Nalini! Since I did miss Beat of Temptation, the novella is in the anthology An Enchanted Season, will Maggie Shayne being the primary author. I’ll have to check it out. Plus the cover for Hostage to Pleasure is up.
Now this is kind of nice, if you like ebooks, BooksOnBoard is running a promotion on all of Nalini’s books. They are giving a 28% off discount on her titles and all you have to do is enter NaliniOnBoard (case sensitive) at checkout.

Rachel Vincent sold a new novel in a new series to Mira Books. My Soul to Take will be the first novel in a new young adult trilogy. I’m not sure if you’ve found her or not, but Jeri Smith-Ready has a really interesting blog where she does a lot of interviews. Her latest interview is with Cynthia Eden, author of Hotter After Midnight.

Another interview that is up, Rebecca York was interviewed by Lori DeVoti.

And finally, new excerpts have been added:

If you can’t tell, it’s been awhile since I updated my excerpts on the new releases page. Found something else…Jenna Black is guest blogging over at Witchy Chicks, so make sure you check out her article “I Love My Bad Boys”.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Having just read a mystery by Charlaine Harris, I definitely think I’m going to have to check out her Southern Vampire series. I love Southern books and I find I increasingly enjoy vampire lit, so why not have both at once? :)
