Introducing…Tempt Me Saturday!

Welcome to the first edition of the Tempt Me Saturday feature, which kind of looks like the Sunday Surprise feature, huh.  There’s a very good reason for that…that’s because it’s an off shoot of it.  I’ve been coming across so many great novels that I have Sunday Surprise posts scheduled through the end of the year and I still have more to put up.  So, I’m adding a round to Saturday as well.  From now on, I’ll be introducing six new books every weekend.  Well, they may not be new to everyone, but they’ll be new to me and maybe I’ll remind someone of a great novel they once read.

For the first edition, I wanted to introduce everyone to Tristan from Michael Spradlin’s The Youngest Templar series.  It’s one I’ve just come across thanks to Jeaniene Frost and the books definitely sound interesting.  The third novel, Orphan of Destiny, comes out this week and Jeaniene has thrown together a sweet contest (involving an ereader) to help celebrate.  So if you’re as tempted by these as much as I am, then make sure you head over there.  Now without further ado…

Keeper of the Grailexcerpt

1191 A.D. The orphan Tristan has joined the Knights Templar as a squire, journeying with Richard the Lionheart on his crusade to free the Holy Land from the Saracens. As defeat looms near, Tristan is entrusted with the most sacred of Christian relics, the Holy Grail. He must return it safely to Britain, but he must also keep it secret, because the Grail’s power will drive men to madness, and even his fellow Knights Templar will kill for it.

Tristan teams up with the fiery Robard Hode— returning to his home in Sherwood after serving with the King’s Archers—and Maryam, an equally fierce girl and a member of the dreaded Hashshashin. Together they must escape the Holy Land, dodging bandits, the forces of the Saladin, and unscrupulous knights who will stop at nothing to possess the Grail.

Washed up on a foreign shore, Tristan is lucky to be alive. As before, it seems to be a miracle— the Holy Grail the young Templar squire is protecting has saved his life yet again. But now he is lost in a strange land, and he doesn’t know if his friends, the fiery archer Robard Hode and the Saracen assassin maid Maryam, still survive. Tristan’s knack for getting into trouble is alive and well, though, and he quickly finds himself drawn into a conflict between a heretical band of Cathars and the oppressive King of France.

With his duty to the Grail pulling him back toward Britain, Tristan finds himself falling for the beautiful leader of the Cathars. And when he chooses to help her in her people’s hour of need, Tristan risks not only himself but his friends and the Grail itself on a quest that may prove to be a disaster.

Orphan of Destinyexcerpt

Tristan and his companions—the fiery archer Robard Hode and the assassin maid Maryam—have escaped to England. But tragedy has occurred to Tristan’s beloved abbey while they were on the Third Crusade, and Robard’s home in Sherwood Forest suffers under the rule of the Sheriff of Nottingham. Many obstacles still prevent them from delivering the Holy Grail into safe hands. Tristan must defeat the evil Sir Hugh in one final battle. And he must learn the secret of his birth, a secret Richard the Lionheart and Eleanor of Aquitaine are willing to kill to protect!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I love the Robin Hood legend almost as much as I love the King Arthur legend. Thank you for the cranium’s up for the series and Jeaniene’s contest.
