Wild Fire by C. Feehan

Wild FireIf I had to describe Christine Feehan’s Wild Fire with one word, I would use ‘explosive.’  The chemistry between Isabeau and Conner is so hot it practically melts the words right off the paper. And the fight scenes erupt like a bomb in your face with little forewarning.

Leopard shifter Connor Vega carries the scent of a wild animal in its prime, and bears the soul-crushing sins of past betrayals. Isabeau Chandler’s never forgiven him-or forgotten him. The mating urge is still with her, and hotter than ever. Dangerously hot…

When I first realized that Wild Fire was about a second chance at love between Conner and Isabeau, I was excited. I love reading about second chances and seeing how characters redeem themselves. Sometimes, though, the author can mess the story up by focusing too much on the past or by glossing over the past and barely bring it into the spotlight. Feehan did neither. She found the right balance allowing Isabeau and Conner their brief moments of remembrance, enough to give the readers a nearly vivid view of their previous relationship, before forcing the two back into the present through often violent means.

Conner believed that because Isabeau discovered that he had lied to her about everything, except about his love for her, that he would never see her again. Even though she was his one, true mate and he would never love again. But when he and his team are hired to save local village children who had been kidnapped by a ruthless drug lord, he unexpectedly finds Isabeau back in his life.

For her work, Isabeau had been living in the jungle with the villagers when the children were kidnapped. Feelings of responsibility and guilt eat at her, pushing her to help the team regain the children despite her mixed feelings for Conner and the inevitable danger that greets them around every tree. Even with the simplest plan for extraction, nothing is ever easy for them.

Wild Fire is an emotional roller coaster that grips readers with a ferocity that carries on long after the last page.
