Apart from Lisa’s review, I’d heard nothing but wonderful things about Warrior by Zoe Archer. So I decided to read it to see how good it really was. Unfortunately, Warrior didn’t live up to its reputation.
The vicious attack Capt. Gabriel Huntley witnesses in a dark alley sparks a chain of events that will take him to the ends of the Earth and beyond – where what is real and what is imagined become terribly confused. And frankly, Huntley couldn’t be more pleased. Intrigue, danger, and a beautiful woman in distress – just what he needs. Raised thousands of miles from England, Thalia Burgess is no typical Victorian lady. A good thing, because a proper lady would have no hope of recovering the priceless magical artefact Thalia is after. Huntley’s assistance might come in handy, though she has to keep him in the dark. But this distractingly handsome soldier isn’t easy to deceive…
The plot was predictable and mundane. It felt as if each challenge that Gabriel and Thaia faced was too easily defeated or overcome. They easily won every battle they engaged in – the bad guys either ran away or were massacred despite their magical and group size advantages.
Thalia, for that matter, seemed way too perfect – easily capable of doing anything she had to do. Don’t get me wrong, I love it when the heroine can kick butt, but Thalia’s only flaw was that she didn’t act like a lady. Which, just so happened to be her biggest allure for Gabriel.
The chemistry between the two did feel real and it did spice up the plot a little. Thalia and Gabriel complimented each other perfectly yet it wasn’t enough to make Warrior interesting.
The concept of Warrior had the potential to be great, it just lacked that spark which would have made it so.

Thanks Lisa! I think I will read Scoundrel, because I did like Bennett – he was one of the few good things in Warrior. And if you liked it then I probably will too!
