Question of the Day: Comfort Reads

I’m still working on getting the newsletter put together (I’m aiming for later tonight), but until then here’s another Question of the Day that generated a few recommendations over the weekend.

What is your just what the doctor ordered book of choice?

QOTDAlaina A: my go to book for a reread.. Shelly Laurenston Beast Behaving Badly

Meleesa ST: *blush* Anita Blake series, any of them but especially later in the series.

Jennifer M: It’s Rachel Gibson for me. Her hockey books always cheer me up.

Destiny P: Kim Harrison, JR Ward, Richelle Mead. A good paranormal!

Maria G: I agree with Meleesa and Destiny!!!!

Destiny P: Though when I’m sick, James Patterson is what I gravitate to because he has short chapters and the stories are easy to get into and read quickly. Either that or I grab a Young Adult (paranormal) book.

Melanie T: Anything by Jeaniene Frost.

Becky L: Mo Hayder would be mine and/or Stephen King.

Christina FC: Sookie Stackhouse usually does it for me, but I love Outlander (Diana Gabaldon) when I have a LOT of time. Of course, I’ll read anything!

Mata M: Black Dagger Brotherhood – Outlander – Mortal Instruments – Fever Series are my medicine :)

Chrissie LA: Anything about Bones and Cat well do!!

Ivan S: Many… Jurassic Park, Hogfather, The Light Fantastic, The Lord Of The Rings, Alchemist, some of mine: Tale Of The Rock Pieces, the Opposite Of Magic… sorry, I had to pick one but it’s really hard…

Marijke G: Eloisa James desperate duchesses series or Shelly Laurenston Pride and Pack series

Kristin H: Ilona Andrews, although by now I can pick up any of her books and start at any page and know exactly what’s happening. If I’m just looking for something romance, I’ve always loved Nora Roberts. I started reading her books in 8th grade so I think they make me feel at home. :)

So what is your just what the doctor ordered book of choice?

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Mine change but Nora Roberts is always on that list. Others include: Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows, Queen of the Darkness by Anne Bishop, Mercedes Lackey’s Magic series and Oath series, and LaVyrle Spencer.

  2. Ha, ironic, I just spent the last several days in bed doing nothing much but reading. Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, a few older reads like ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS or INCIDENT AT HAWK’S HILL are usually what I reach for when I’m stuck sick at home.

  3. The In Death series by J.D. Robb, the Ophelia and Abby series by Shirley Damsgaard, the Queen Betsy series by MaryJanice Davidson, the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, or the Hollows series by Kim Harrison.

  4. This is going to sound strange, but I go for one of my favorite young adult series. It’s easy reading and I’ve re-read the series so many times they books are literally falling apart. LOL It’s the Final Friends Series by Christopher Pike. I’ve been a fan of his since elementary school and wish he’d write more adult novels, because the few that he did write were awesome.

  5. Losing Louisa by Judith Caseley was my favorite YA book..These are a little more adult but based on what youve been reading I think youll love them ..Christine Feehans Dark Series ..Kresley Coles Immortals After Dark Series..Lora Leighs Breed Series..Anything by Nalini Singh Christine Warren or Shelly Laurenston..Susan Donovan books.. As far as chick flick type of books try Dairy Queen and the books that follow or if you like books written in verse like poetry only it tells a story I would try What My Mother Doesnt Know by Sonya Sones. But if you liked HP or Twilight you might like the Maximum Ride series– its somewhat similar and really focuses more on the characters and yes there is romance than the sci-fi aspect of it all…..Happy Reading!..
