From Dead to Worse by C. Harris

From Dead to Worse, Charlaine Harris’ eighth installment in her Southern Vampire Mysteries series, has a completely different feel to it than her other novels. Nothing bad, but different. Instead of having to deal with a major conflict that takes up the entire book, Harris gives us a glimpse into the changes Sookie’s life has undergone due to her association with the Supes. This time around, Sookie gets dragged into some interesting situations involving the Weres, the Vampires, and even her brother.

From Dead to Worse seems be a catalyst of some sort. Not in a bad way, but it seemed to tie up a lot of loose ends and clear the path to start a whole new story arc. To say the least, if Harris wanted to end the series, she could do it with this novel, but nothing really gives off that final feel either. She could end the series, but I don’t think she will.  She’s left a lot of openings for new plots and she’s definitely made a path for Eric and Sookie to get together.  It’ll be interesting to see if she does get them together at a later date.

Overall, I have to say that I enjoyed this novel even though there really wasn’t that much action involved.  I became entrenched in it easily enough and I was actually surprised when I finished it.  I didn’t think I had gotten through it that quickly.  I did like that we weren’t thrown into a situation that was chaotic and that a lot of issues were resolved.  I honestly do not see this as the end of the series, so I can’t wait to see what else Harris has in store for Sookie, the Weres, the Vampires, and all the other denizens in Bon Temps.

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I really enjoyed this book. Just like you stated, it really tied up some loose ends. It also introduced some more potential storylines. I thought there was a LOT of stuff going on, just not action packed like the others. Kind of busy work. LOL But it was good, I finished it in a day. Really looking forward to the next book in the series!
