NA Mini-Challenge Update

We are 12 days into the New Author Steampunk Mini Challenge and I thought I would check to see what everyone has read.

Becky LeJeune has reviewed the third novel in Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate series, Changeless.  I’ve been hearing some really great things about this series and Becky is just adding to them.  Something tells me I really need to get my butt moving and begin this series.

Mel’s Random Reviews has reviewed Robert Appleton’s new steampunk novel, The Mysterious Lady Law.  The cover for Appleton’s novel really caught my eye earlier this year and Mel’s review is making me think I need to add this to my growing TBR list.

It seems Becky LeJeune is really enjoying the steampunk genre as she has finished George Mann’s The Affinity Bridge, her second novel for the challenge.  Becky is describing Mann’s novel as a traditional mystery with zombies and dirigibles, which means if you’ve been itching for some zombies, this might be right up your alley.

Whenever I think of steampunk, there’s always one author that springs to mind and that is Scott Westerfeld.  I’m not the only one as Cascata Nerina has joined the challenge with her review of Leviathan.  This is another book I keep seeing around and the covers are fabulous.

Mel’s Random Reviews has found another steampunk novel that she really enjoyed.  At least, if you look at her rating, she liked Bonnie Dee’s Like Clockwork even more than Appleton’s novel.

So that’s what has been reading for February’s NA Steampunk Mini Challenge. So overall, what is everyone thinking of steampunk?  Are you digging it?

While I have everyone’s attention, are we thinking mini-challenge for March or should we take a month off and come back in April for the next one?  Any suggestions for the next challenges theme?

Also, for those participating, are you interested in trying some more?  Dark Faerie Tales is looking for bloggers to participate in an ARC tour for the Corsets and Clockwork anthology.  This is just one of many tours Dark Faerie Tales is hosting, so if you’re looking to add to your reading list, I would head over.  Also, the tour schedule for Ann Aguirre’s Enclave has also been posted.

The Steampunk Mini-Challenge is a part of the year long New Author reading challenge. It’s never to late to join, just head over here to sign up.  There’s already been 116 reviews by readers who have taken the chance on a new author.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
