Cupid X: Hello everyone.

I am sitting down today with the five Cupids from the Cupid Gone Wild book series. It has become common knowledge here on Earth of the 2011 Cupid Challenge to match the most unlikely couple. This Holiday has been filled with drama, accusations of cheating, the possible disqualification of a Cupid for the use of experimental arrows, another for hitting an unintended target, not to mention whoever leaked the information about the Challenge. This is the first EVER Cupid leak, and the first time cupids have gone public. So what do you all have to say for yourselves?

Cupid Gone Wild Tour

Cupid Red of The Boss Wore Red is the first to speak.

Red: I can assure you I would never release confidential information. All my equipment is approved, standard line, completely traditional. I do not rely on untested experimental arrows and use only the most trusted brands. My family has maintained the highest of standards for generations, and to do less myself would be a betrayal to them as well as a disloyalty to the Cupid Industry. Although the vic– subjects– I chose required all the arrows in my quiver to finally discover the loves of their lives, nevertheless they never had the slightest notion they had become targets.

You may contrast my integrity with others whose reputations may be less– sterling, and you will quickly realize I remain blameless.

Cupid HH of The Hollywood Hookup raised his hand.

HH: I know I am not the leak, but first I want to bring up the issue of the “experimental arrow”. The dream arrow I used has shown great promise in testing. It was ready to move up to use on mortals. Also no one said anything at the start of the challenge about rules regulating arrows.

Red: Furthermore, it has been known in numerous archery competitions that I consistently score highest, while others, and I shall not point fingers, have been known to mis-string their bows or fail to use their beeswax to maintain string integrity, and to use sub-standard equipment under the guise of an experimental label.

Cupid 2-14 of Love Potion No. 2-14 interrupted.

2-14: I am certainly not the leak. Why would I have to leak anything? I chose a witch for crying out loud and had to overcome her magic. I should win the promotion on that alone. Much harder than a match between an older woman and a younger man.

Cupid B of The Bachelor answers next flexing his wings.

B: I just want to say, that I find all this ageism offensive. What is wrong with matching up an older woman with a younger man? Even if the age difference between my couple was more than a paltry seven years, it would still be fine. Cougars and age differences within couples are downright trendy right now! I am the most forward thinking of all the Cupids. I was the first one on the Internet! Don’t let anyone tell you different. I had a Facebook account back when it was a mere pimple of an idea on some college student’s face.

Red: Well, I certainly cannot object to a Cougar Match. I mean if your fellow can live with all that gray hair, bags and wrinkles, so be it. But what’s hard about that with her? A gorgeous young hunk- no wonder cougars prowl.

Cupid TWT star of The Wrong Target, speaks up.

TWT: Whoever started and spread this leak so efficiently has to be IT and website savvy, so that let’s me out completely.

To be continued…

Contest Time! The cupids are giving away 3 copies of their Cupid Gone Wild Anthology. To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: Which characters would you pick as your vic– subjects– if you were taking part in the Cupid Challenge?  Or simply ask any of the Cupids a question.

As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat (remember, these aren’t mandatory to enter, just extra entries):

  • +1 for each place you post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.
  • +1 to any review you comment on, however, comments must be meaningful. Just give me the title of the review and I’ll be able to figure it out from there.
  • +1 If you are a follower of Literary Escapism on Facebook and/or Twitter
  • +10 Purchase any novel through LE’s Amazon store or the Book Depository sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: jackie AT literaryescapism DOT com. Each purchase is worth ten entries.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until February 22nd, at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer and the List Randomizer.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. HH: I want to get back to the whole “IT savvy” comment TWT made. Isn’t it you B who said how you were on Facebook? How you found your couple to match in the Bachelor there?

If we are pointing fingers that looks a little fishy…

  2. We have established that the leak had to come from someone with IT knowledge, and that could be several Cupids. However I was in Egypt making a match at the time, and we all know the internet had been shut down because of the protests. Therefore I could not be the culprit.

However, if we want to find the real leaker, we must go about this scientifically. First, we should explore probable motives. Why would any Cupid commit such an act when the very future of Cupidity depends on our invisibility? What would one have to gain? Could it be money? Fame? Power? It seems to me none of those particularly attract Cupids, since we are all quite well fixed. And fame is contradictory to the essence of Cupidity. We can’t do our jobs is we are noticed. Perhaps it is something else.

  3. We are so busy accusing each other as cupids, but just take a moment to stop and ask yourself, who gains the most from all this interbickering?

Who is looking for someone to promote, and WHY are they looking? Perhaps the question we cupids should be asking is, ‘what’s in it for Cupid X?’
Is the aspiring promotion because someone else is also being promoted?

And the next question to consider is ‘Who pointed the finger first?’

  4. Good Question Sandy!

I like to think that without us and the help the couple might have never met, or even if they had they never would have seen past their differences. Also the element that a mortal looking at the couple would never say – “If I sent them on a blind date they would be married three weeks later.

Some matches a little bop in the head is enough to open their eyes, for others a lot of details need to be cleared from their path.

As to you other Cupids – :P

  5. I’ve always liked the idea of Cupids being the cause of some of the matches that I see. Otherwise, I sometimes can’t imagine how in the world two such unlikely people would ever get together. It’s one thing when two people share the same interests, but when they are complete opposites, you have to wonder.

  6. I’d like to know who the Cupid’s think is their perfect match?

  7. I love all of the banter between the Cupids while they try to blame each other while pushing themselves ahead in the competition.
