Look Who’s Going to RT: Nicole Peeler

Last year I had the chance to attend the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention when it was held in Columbus, Ohio. At the time, I was curious to see who was going to attend (so I could draft my stalker list) and dreamed up a feature, that not only showcased the various events at RT, but all the fabulous authors who were going to be there.

It’s a year later and RT is just around the corner and while I am unable to be in Los Angeles with everyone else, I still had so much fun with the feature that I just had to do it again. The “Look Who’s Going to RT” will showcase over 50 authors who will be roaming the halls of the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and are eager to meet all of their readers. To kick us off, can everyone give a warm welcome to Nicole Peeler.

Nicole PeelerCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I write the Jane True series for Orbit Books. Jane’s adventures begin with Tempest Rising, and continue in Tracking the Tempest and Tempest’s Legacy. Eye of the Tempest, book four, should be out in August of 2011. In my free time, I’m a professor of literature and creative writing at Seton Hill University, and I also teach in their MFA in Popular Fiction.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
Jane’s world is just like ours, but all our myths and legends are real. Jane learns this fact the hard way, however, when a discovery of a body under very suspect circumstances means Jane needs to learn the truth about the mother who abandoned her. Turns out Jane is half-selkie, and all magical. Soon she’s plunged into a world of supernatural intrigue, where nothing can be trusted and pretty much everything is solved using lashings of the old ultra-violence. What is a half-seal girl to do, besides the hot vampire?

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This will be my second RT, and I’m very much looking forward to it. For anyone going for the first time, have a plan! It can be completely overwhelming. Also, come to my panel. ;-)

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I’m moderating a panel on writing sexual tension. It should be . . . tense. ;-) And I’ll definitely be hitting up quite a few of the UF track panels. I also want to attend some erotica panels. Because FUN!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I’m short, chubby, and have very fake, dyed red hair. I’m also rather loud. You’ll most likely find me at the bar. ;-) Come on over and say, “hi!” I only bite when it’s requested.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. This will be my first RT and I am making sure I attend the RT Virgin workshop. So far I have scheduled workshops for practically every minute of the 5+ days! I doubt I can keep up with that schedule. LOL

I look forward to seeing you there!

  2. RT is such a wonderful to learn and have fun! I’ll keep an eye out for you, Nicole!

And Stacie? RT is notorious for running off schedule, so be prepared and trust us, it’s fun even when things don’t run like clockwork!

  3. I especially like your last paragraph – and I did start a blog – two in fact – just a few months ago! I always write letters to my children at Christmas – sometimes more often, but at least once a year. They know their letters will be in their stockings! Probably wouldn’t do anything you said not to – just a little bit inhibited! But that’s just me. Congratulations on being freshly pressed!
