Looks Who’s Going to RT: Kelley Armstrong

Kelley ArmstrongCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m the author of the “Women of the Otherworld” paranormal suspense series (Bitten), “Darkest Powers” YA urban fantasy trilogy (The Summoning), and the Nadia Stafford crime series (Exit Strategy). My website is www.KelleyArmstrong.com.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
My biggest one is the Otherworld, which is also the same universe I use for my young adult series (same world, but with different casts of characters) It’s contemporary North America with a paranormal twist. All the creatures of myth and legend exist–werewolves, vampires, witches, demons, ghosts etc. The rest of the world doesn’t know about them, and they work very hard to keep it that way.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This will be my fifth RT. My best advice is to take a look at the schedule beforehand, and decide which events you really want to attend, and which you’ll attend only if you feel up to it. If you want, you can leave your room for breakfast and find things to do until the wee hours of the morning. And I’ve seen too many people who do that for two days and crash. Build in downtime.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I have a few panels. Worldbuilding in Urban Fantasy. Not Another Teen Panel. Graphic Novels: The Female Creators Workshop. I’m moderating the panel: Risky Business: Promotion, Marketing and Avoiding the Mouth of Madness.

I’m also at Avon’s Dusk To Dark Mixer (free books and munchies!) And, of course, I’ll be at the Giant Book Fair!  I haven’t looked at the full schedule yet, but I’m looking forward to the “Hollywood panels (screenwriting etc)”

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Likely the woman zooming past at warp speed, looking like she has someplace to be. Go ahead and stop me. I’m likely not going anyplace critical. That’s just my normal mode :)

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Kelley Armstrong is great, I absolutely love the Otherworld-series! Can’t wait to buy the next installment :)

Her other books seem quite interesting as well, so I must check them out sometime soon.
