Looks Who’s Going to RT: Terri Garey

Terri GareyCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m a Southern girl with an overactive imagination who, after surviving a full-time career in computer engineering, three teenagers, and a lifetime of logic and responsibility, decided to do what I wanted to do, which was to write decadently delicious tales from the dark side (otherwise known as paranormal romance).

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
The Nicki Styx series (Dead Girls Are Easy, A Match Made in Hell, You’re the One that I Haunt and Silent Night, Haunted Night) is set in the quirky little community of Little Five Points, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. It’s a very funky, very bohemian neighborhood right in the middle of the historic district – the perfect setting for a character like Nicki, a goth girl who owns and runs a vintage clothing store. Nicki’s carefree life changes in an instant when she suffers heart failure, is revived by a hunky doctor, and comes back to life with the newfound ability to see dead people.

My upcoming Devil’s Bargain series (Devil Without a Cause and A Devil Named Desire), is a much darker spin-off of the Nicki Styx series, centered around a smokin’ hot recurring character, the Devil himself (otherwise known as Sammy (Satan) Divine). Having always been fascinated by legends and stories surrounding Satan’s Biblical fall from grace, I’m excited to be able to tell it from a whole new perspective, from the side of the arrogant fallen angel whose lust for the flesh led him to defy his creator. In The Devil’s Bargain series, I get to do some serious worldbuilding, blending modern day settings with ancient myths and legends, populating an Underworld full of creatures you wouldn’t want to see in your worst nightmare, ruled over by the sexiest devil to ever haunt your dreams.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my second RT, and I had so much fun the last time that I had to do it again! As for advice, my suggestion is to step outside your comfort zone a little, and TALK to people. Go to the workshops, go to the parties. If you see an author whose name you recognize, don’t be afraid to say hello – we’re solitary creatures most of the time, but we love talking to readers, and we love talking books!

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I’m not speaking on a panel this year, but I absolutely love going to workshops. I’m particularly looking forward to the “Five Times a Night? Really? Getting Honest About Sex Scenes” panel with Barry Eisler, Heather Graham and F. Paul Wilson, during which male and female authors will discuss their varying perspectives on sexual fantasy vs. reality. (I hear there’s even Sex on the Beach! The drink, I mean.) J I’m also looking forward to industry panels relating to e-books and future bookstore trends, and I’ve sworn not to leave without autographs from Dean Koontz and Patrick Rothfuss!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
They should look for the shorthaired blonde with a big smile on her face, and they can find me at the Avon’s Dusk To Dark Mixer at 6pm on Friday, April 8th, as well as the Giant Book Fair on Saturday, April 9th, from 11-2pm.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
