The Time Weaver by S. Abé

SAbe-Time WeaverI only know the bare minimum about time travel, and of that knowledge, I understand less than half of it. That didn’t stop me from loving Shana Abé’s The Time Weaver, which was all about time travel.

Honor Carlisle may have been born into the drákon clan but she’s always felt like a stranger to her kin. It’s an intuition that proves true when she receives a mysterious letter—a letter sent by her future self. Honor learns she is a Time Weaver: a creature with the extraordinary ability to transport herself into the past or future.

But the letter contains a dire warning. If Honor remains in her home at Darkfrith, she is certain to be killed. Fleeing for sanctuary among old friends in Spain, she practices her Weaving and unknowingly draws closer to an even more immediate danger. For on one of her Weaves into the future, Honor encounters the very man she should most avoid: the prince of a rival tribe of drákon.

Drawn to Prince Alexandru of Zaharen, Honor is unable to resist the temptation of Weaving to him again and again across time. As they surrender to a desire that brings the present and future ever closer, they realize they are true soulmates. But they also risk fulfilling a terrible prophecy—for their union is destined to wreak havoc. Now Honor and Sandu must place their trust—and their lives—in each other’s hands, and their faith in a magical love that could restore order to the drákon universe—or destroy it forever.

The Time Weaver is everything that Abé’s fans have come to except from her novels – a passionate romance and a nerve-racking adventure. The plot was simple enough to follow – it was all about the love between Honor and Sandu. Even though the future was saying that their love was doomed, and that it was in the best interest of the entire drákon population that they didn’t even meet, they stuck together and fell in love anyway.

Honor and Sandu were both strong characters, who were both constantly adapting and changing. Sandu, the younger brother of Maricara from Queen of Dragons, had his own special gifts – the ability to Read a person’s true intent behind the words they had actually written down on paper. While their two talents wouldn’t seem compatible, Honor was constantly jumping around in Time, and her future self leaving her present self letters of advice. Sandu could read those letters and know that they really were from Honor’s future self.

Lia and Zane, from The Dream Thief, played a major role in The Time Weaver. I liked them much better in The Time Weaver because they had more of a depth, had grown up and evolved into a strong couple than they were in The Dream Thief.

Like I said before, I loved The Time Weaver by Shana Abé.  The characters were fabulous, but there were times where I just felt like grabbing my head and screaming, “This makes no sense!!!!!!!!” during some of the time travel sequences.  Now I need to go find a patient physicist to sit down with me and answer all my questions about time travel.
