Looks Who’s Going to RT: Lynsay Sands

Lynsay SandsCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
My name is Lynsay Sands and I’m the author of many hysterical historicals (as my readers tend to call them) and the Argeneau/Rogue Hunter series (A Quick Bite). I have over 43 books in print, which probably tells you I really enjoy writing. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to make a career out of it.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
I believe you’re talking about my Argeneau series. That being the case then I can describe them to you. The general story line . . . there are immortal people living among the mortal population today. They are descendants of an ancient civilization that was advanced technologically to the point that they began to work with bio-engineered nanos as a medical aid to fight disease and repair injuries from inside the body without the need for invasive surgery. These nanos used blood to make repairs and fuel themselves which meant the host needed more blood than a body could supply to support the nanos. In that civilization this was dealt with through transfusions. However, when a series of natural disasters (earthquakes and volcanoes) brought an end to that civilization, only those people the nanos had been tested on survived, and they suddenly found themselves in a primitive society. Without their much needed blood transfusions, many died, but in others the nanos lived up to their programming to keep the host at their peak condition and forced a sort of evolution on them, bringing on fangs, extra strength, night vision and other skills so that their hosts could get the blood they needed and remain at their peak.

That’s the background, but my stories so far are based mostly around one particular family of immortals, the Argeneaus. However, the Argeneaus are really your typical family. I think everyone would recognize at least one member of their own family among this group. My stories tell how each member finds his life mate despite all the good intentioned interference and harassment of their loving family.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I have been to a couple of Romantic Times conventions before, but only to a couple so I guess I wouldn’t exactly be a veteran yet. I don’t think I’m a newbie though either. As for advice I would say this convention is geared more toward readers than something like the RWA conferences, which is more for writers. You will have many lovely readers chatting with you and likely get a large turnout to your signings. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, especially your time with the readers, (at least I love seeing them, but then I always say I have the best readers there are. They’re amazing!) Enjoy your time with them, but if you ever need some down time away from the crowds, you may have to go outside the hotel for it.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
No, I will not be speaking on any panels. I’ve been asked in the past, but I’m really quite shy and don’t like getting up and speaking in front of an audience! As for attending panels, I haven’t looked into it yet as I am still in the process of making the plans to come to the RT convention. But I tend to stay away from “how to write this or that” type panels. My previous editor, CK, used to tell me not to attend those because I already had a style of writing and he didn’t want anything interfering with it. LOL. I took that to heart.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
The lady without a nametag! LOL. Seriously, I tend to avoid wearing the nametag except at signings, or wear it turned toward my chest so it’s unreadable. I don’t have a lot of free time at conferences, my editor and the promo people at Avon tend to fill my dance card at these events. Every time I’ve attended a conference, I’ve wanted to go out and see some of the city, but so far I haven’t had the time. So my best suggestion would be, if readers want to come up and chat with me then the best opportunity to do so would be at the book signings. Of course, if they see me at the signing and later recognizing me walking around the hotel, I’m always happy when they stop me to say “Hi.”

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
