Undercover Lover by Charlene Teglia

Charlene Teglia - Undercover LoverI was looking for some romance and decided to finally give Teglia’s Undercover Lover a try since I recently picked it up for free from Amazon. It was a good thing I wanted something quick and easy because that’s exactly what I got.

When Anne Parker yanks open her front door, she’s armed and ready to aim cold fury at her ex. Instead, she finds herself staring up at Pete Crenshaw, a man as disarming as he is dangerous to her battered defenses. A man whose touch sends her I-remember-sex hormones soaring into the red zone.

Pete’s been biding his time. More accurately, lying in wait for precisely the right moment to take their relationship from friends to lovers. He’s aware of Anne’s trust issues, but it’s time to make a move before she has a chance to do what she does best—overthink it.

Her ex isn’t just back to make another play, though. He’s after secrets Pete and his partner hide under the cover of their garage business. Pete finds his heart caught between Anne’s safety and the secrets he’s sworn to keep—unless he can find a way to preserve both…

This was a really quick read. It seriously only took me 29 minutes from start to finish and I even spent a few minutes on facebook. Sadly, I’m not sure that was a good thing. It was a short novella, but the plot was weak, and I mean really weak, with very little substance. I want to say 90% of the story (if not more) was all sex and I need a little more than that. Going into the story, the characters already knew each other and had an established dynamic that really wasn’t explored. They’ve been friends and now Pete wants more so he comes over with a “you-me-sex-now” attitude and Anne just goes with it. I mean, he just starts to undress her and she doesn’t complain at all? On top of this, the whole nefarious plot was totally a last minute thought. The entire plot maybe consisted of about 3 pages and that’s being generous.

Overall, I’m really glad this was a free read from Amazon.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
