Look Who’s Going to RT: D. B. Reynolds

D. B. ReynoldsCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
D. B. Reynolds is the author of the Vampires in America series of paranormal romance, including Raphael, Jabril, Rajmund, and coming in April 2011, Sophia. Her books have garnered high praise from such authors as Kelley Armstrong and Adrian Phoenix, and her second book, Jabril, was recently nominated for an RT Reviewer’s Choice award for this year. DB is also an Emmy-nominated television sound editor. She lives with her husband of many years in a flammable canyon near Los Angeles, and when she’s not writing her own books, she can usually be found reading someone else’s.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
Vampires in America tells the story of the eight Vampire Lords who control all of the vampires in North America. They’re extremely powerful and aggressive, very territorial toward one another, and they’ve built empires in both the human and vampire worlds.

The most powerful of these Vampire Lords is Raphael, whom we meet in the first book and who, as the Western Vampire Lord, controls the largest of the territories. He lives in Malibu among the beautiful people who flock to his parties, soaking in the danger and the thrill of playing with vampires, willingly donating blood from the vein in exchange for the sexual high it gives.

Each book introduces a new Vampire Lord, as well as his (or her in Sophia’s case) human lover and mate. For Raphael, the love of his long life is Cynthia Leighton (Cyn) whom he meets in the first book. Raphael and Cyn are the central characters of the series and appear at least peripherally in every book.

My vampires, it should be noted, are not the soul-searching, tormented kind who hate what they are and drink blood only because they have to. My vampires embrace who and what they are. They’re the top of the food chain on earth and behave accordingly. They’re arrogant, bloody and violent. They’re also gorgeous, charming and seductive.

Come visit. You’ll fall in love. Or at least in lust.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my first RT. I’ve wanted to attend one for several years now, but the distance was always a problem. Getting away for that long just isn’t that easy. So when I heard RT was coming to L.A., I knew I was going to be there.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I’ll be signing at the Book Expo, but I’m not speaking on any panels yet. I am on several waiting lists, so ……

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Well, like I said, I’ll be signing at the Book Expo, so they can just look for my name. But I’ll be around every day, and I’m a six foot blond, probably wearing mostly black–this is Hollywood, after all–so I’m kind of hard to miss!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
