Bite Club by R. Caine

RCaine - Bite ClubI have said it before, but I have to say it again: I LOVE the Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine!! I cannot believe it took me so damn long to actually start it. Once I did, I literally could not stop. I put everything else aside to read the latest novel and that most assuredly includes Bite Club.

After discovering that vampires populate her town, college student Claire Danvers knows that the undead just want to live their lives. But someone else wants them to get ready to rumble.

There’s a new extreme sport getting picked up on the Internet: bare- knuckle fights pitting captured vampires against each other-or humans. Tracking the remote signal leads Claire- accompanied by her friends and frenemies-to discover that what started as an online brawl will soon threaten everyone in Morganville…

One of the things I absolutely love about the Morganville Vampires is the nonstop action involved. The fact that it’s a young adult series doesn’t take away from the action or storyline at all and I love that about Caine’s writing.

I really liked the plot in Bite Club, as here you have a town that’s under a delicate rule with vampires and humans co-existing…but just barely. A new athletic club opens up and gives humans the opportunity to learn how to protect themselves, and it’s being taught by vampires. This opens up a world of trouble for the town as the humans and vampires barely co-exist as it is, and when Claire’s boyfriend gets involved she learns there is more going on than just a mere “workout”.

There were some surprises in Bite Club that left me begging for more by the time I was done, and I can’t wait to find out what Caine has in store for this town next.

I have to say that after reading Bite Club, I really REALLY hate Shane. I am not sure I really agree on Caine’s take on Shane and his inner turmoil because it makes for VERY BAD boyfriend material and its a bummer to even read about. In the beginning he was not so bad and he was supposed to have supposedly gotten over his issues but this book brought them all back in spades. I get that he was influenced a bit but that didn’t change my opinion of him at all.

The other characters I really enjoyed in Bite Club, especially Myrnin. As a matter of fact I am growing rather fond of the crazy vampire and find myself wishing for more time for Claire in his laboratory. I really enjoy the humor Caine puts into these books, and Bite Club had some exceptionally funny bits in it.

I never thought that I would enjoy a young adult series as much as I am enjoying The Morganville Vampires, but when I pick up one of these books I can’t stop reading it until its over. The characters and world suck me in immediately and make me never want to leave.

If you are a fan of Urban Fantasy or Young Adult books, you must check this series out!

  1. OMG, this book made you hate Shane? Eek! While I’m not the biggest Shane fan, I always thought I’d like him…. now I’m intrigued. I’m also a huge fan of Myrnin! I absolutely ADORE that crazy vamp and always look forward to his scenes!

    Anyhow, great review!

  2. Thanks! I think it was just “all” of his issues coming out in full force in one book that painted him in a very bad with for me.

And Myrnin.. ahh is it bad that I fantasize about the crazy vamp? :P

  3. Great Review!

I really need to catch up with these! I read the first one, and for some reason never continued. *shakes fist* Damn there being so many books to distract me. ;)
