I am ecstatic to welcome back Jackie Morse Kessler, who is getting ready to release her second Horseman of the Apocalypse novel, Rage.
Missy didn’t mean to cut so deep. But after the party where she was humiliated in front of practically everyone in school, who could blame her for wanting some comfort? Sure, most people don’t find comfort in the touch of a razor blade, but Missy always was . . . different.
That’s why she was chosen to become one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War. Now Missy wields a new kind of blade—a big, brutal sword that can cut down anyone and anything in her path. But it’s with this weapon in her hand that Missy learns something that could help her triumph over her own pain: control.
A unique approach to the topic of self-mutilation, Rage is the story of a young woman who discovers her own power and refuses to be defeated by the world.
Make sure you stick around to the end. I have details on how you can get your hands on copies of Hunger and Rage along with postcards and a mini-poster.

ROAD RAGE: A MEMOIR by Jackie Morse Kessler
Two things really piss me off. One is driving slow. The other is drivers in front of me who drive slow.
Look, I don’t ask for much out of life. A little chocolate. A daydream or two about Matt Damon. That’s really it. So is it too much to expect that other drivers actually know what to do once they put their car into “Drive”? It’s not like I’m saying that the 30-miles-per-hour sign is just a suggestion (although really? 30? Maybe on snowy nights on mountain roads with no guard rails). And I’m not suggesting that yield signs are optional (but they should be). I respect the rules of the road, even the stupid ones. But really, there’s just no excuse for driving too slow. None. If the Methuselah behind the wheel of that ancient sedan is leaving you in the dust, you don’t deserve to have a license.
Even worse? If you’re in a Mercedes, you damn well should drive like it’s a Mercedes. They’re not supposed to go five miles below the speed limit. (It’s in the owner’s manual.)
I wish I could say that because I sometimes write adult fiction about creatures living in Hell, I’ve morphed into a speed demon. You know, “living the art” and all that. But that wouldn’t be true. Maybe in a former life, I was a NASCAR driver.
So it’s not really my fault that I get annoyed and go fast. Everyone around me is going…so…slow that I just have to stomp on the gas pedal. Unfortunately, the police don’t like that. I’m currently between tickets (huzzah), but I’m sure the next one already has my name on it.
Since I’ve been ticket-free, I’ve been working on my anger-management skills. I don’t give other drivers the finger as I pass them (anymore), and I (rarely) need to lean on the horn when the driver in front of me breaks before making a turn. And I’m even easing my way toward police-approved speeds: I set the cruise control for no more than nine miles over the posted speed limit.
I know. I know. But we have to make our way through the world somehow.
Writing my memoir, ROAD AGE, was extremely cathartic. In it, I talk about the first time I stole a car (1988), the first time I almost crashed (1986), the year I failed my first road test (1998), and when I burst into tears over my first speeding ticket (2003). I hope you enjoy ROAD RAGE as much as I enjoyed writing it—and living it.
Maybe the next time I get pulled over, I can give the officer a signed copy.
— When it’s not April Fool’s Day, Jackie Morse Kessler is the author of Rage: Book 2 of the Riders of the Apocalypse (April 4, 2011). —

Jackie Morse Kessler grew up in Brooklyn, NY, with a cranky cat and overflowing shelves filled with dolls and books. Now she’s in Upstate NY with another cranky cat, a loving husband, two sons, and overflowing shelves filled with dragons and books (except when her sons steal her dragons). She has a bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature, and yet she’s never read any Jane Austen (with or without zombies). She also has a master’s degree in media ecology. (The living study of technology and culture. Which is cool, but she still can’t figure out how to use Tweetdeck.)
Jackie spends a lot of time writing, reading, and getting distracted by bright and shiny new ideas. (She just came up with a new idea right now.) She has a weakness for chocolate and a tendency to let her cat take over her office chair.

Thank you Jackie for taking the time to stop by Literary Escapism!
Yeah, I definitely not want my memoirs on view for my kids. My wild, single days with my friends at Myrtle Beach were a thing to behold.
This entry made me LOL! I could totally picture it in my head. Jackie, I love, love, LOVE your writing style, even on the net! :)
Road Rage indeed! And reading Rage now, I can totally see Missy with a problem like that once old enough to drive!
