Coming April 15th: NAC Mini-Challenge

I was trying to think of a good topic/theme for this round of the New Author Mini Challenges and was drawing a complete blank.  Then I happened to take a look at my TBR stack.  It’s still a pretty good size, but the thing that stuck out to me was the number of authors in it that I haven’t read yet.  I can’t be the only one who walks into a bookstore, sees a book that catches my eye and decides to buy it.  At least I hope I’m not the only one.  Just looking at my shelves I can see six new authors – Ashlyn Chase (The Werewolf Upstairs), Kasey Mackenzie (Red Hot Fury), Cherie Priest (Bloodshot), Joey W. Hill (The Vampire Queen’s Servant), Diana Rowland (Mark of the Demon) and Jenna Maclaine (Wages of Sin). I want to read them, I added them to my shelves, but they are totally getting caught up in the too-many-books-too-little-time syndrome.  So that’s going to be the theme for this month’s mini-challenge: to read those novels you bought, with the intention of trying a new author, but haven’t had the chance to yet. I’m sure everyone has some form of a TBR stack sitting around their house, so hopefully this will not only help knock a few titles off the pile, but also introduces you to someone you’ve been meaning to try.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have a TBR stack or it doesn’t include any new to you authors, then why not?  There are so many authors out there to try, so that’s your goal – try someone new.  After all, this is a mini-challenge for the year long New Authors Challenge.  *grin*  If you need a recommendation…

NA Mini-Challenge: TBR Newbies Since I’m starting this month’s New Author Mini Challenge a little late, we’re going to do something a little different.  First up, the goal this time around is to read six (6) novels that were written by new to you authors.  Next, we’re going to make the challenge a little longer.  Instead of just finishing out April, we’re going to take the challenge all the way through May as well.  You’re going to get 45 days to read those 6 novels, so I’m hoping everyone will be able to do it.

Here are the pertinent details for the challenge:

  1. You do not have to be a participant of the New Authors Challenge, but if you’re not, why not?
  2. The Challenge will run from April 15th through May 31st.   All reviews must have an April or May 2011 date.
  3. The goal is to read up to to read those novels you bought, with the intention of trying a new author, but haven’t had the chance to yet. Write up a review on your blog and then come back to the official start post and add your link to Mr. Linky.
  4. The idea is to try a new author (it is a New Author mini-challenge), however, if you’ve already read all of the listed authors, you can still participant, but don’t re-read a novel.

To add a little incentive for this mini-challenge, each participant will have a chance to win their choice of Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton, Hellforged by Nancy Holzner, The Accidental Demon Slayer by Angie Fox, The Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker by Leanna Renee Hieber or Entangled by Graham Hancock – winner’s choice.  Here are the contest details:

  1. At the end of May, I’ll draw one winner from all the reviews posted.  The winner will be announced the weekend of June 3rd, so you’ll have until then to get your review into Mr. Linky (remember though, all reviews must have an April or May date)
  2. Each participant will have 12 chances to get their name in the drawing – 1 entry for each book reviewed (up to 6) and an additional entry for a second place you review said book.  For instance, if you read The Vampire Queen’s Servant by Joey W. Hill and review it on your blog and Amazon, you’ll get 2 entries.

If you are trying a new author, make sure you include them in your list for the main New Authors Challenge.

So who is up for another New Authors Mini Challenge?

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
