I was a very bad girl. I haven’t kept up with Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series, but when I had the chance to read Hawke’s story, Kiss of Snow, I couldn’t resist. It’s Hawke! It’s Sienna! And it was just as fabulous as I thought it would be.
Since the moment of her defection from the PsyNet and into the SnowDancer wolf pack, Sienna Lauren has had one weakness. Hawke. Alpha and dangerous, he compels her to madness.
Hawke is used to walking alone, having lost the woman who would’ve been his mate long ago. But Sienna fascinates the primal heart of him, even as he tells himself she is far too young to handle the wild fury of the wolf.
Then Sienna changes the rules and suddenly, there is no more distance, only the most intimate of battles between two people who were never meant to meet. Yet as they strip away each other’s secrets in a storm of raw emotion, they must also ready themselves for a far more vicious fight…
A deadly enemy is out to destroy SnowDancer, striking at everything they hold dear, but it is Sienna’s darkest secret that may yet savage the pack that is her home…and the alpha who is its heartbeat…
Thankfully, I was only three novels behind Kiss of Snow and while I have only caught up on one of those novels, (Blaze of Memory), I didn’t feel lost at all. In fact, it only made me more interested in getting caught up with the rest of the novels. It was obvious I had missed something, but nothing that was tantamount to the story. There’s enough information to give me an idea as to the political climate. So anyone who wants to read Hawke & Sienna’s story, if you want to skip ahead – go for it; it’ll just make you want to read what you’ve missed even more.
Now for the good stuff – Hawke and Sienna. For some reason, a friend and I had thought Hawke was in his forties (if not older), so we were a little curious to see what would happen with the sexual tension between the two. I mean, a twenty year difference seems kind of weird (although why it doesn’t with a vampire, who is possibly centuries older, is another story), however once I found out there was only a decade between the two, I was ready for some sparks to fly and boy did I get them. If you think Sienna made it easy for Hawke, think again. She not only knows how to push his buttons, but she’s figured it’s all or nothing at this point – so she smashing all of them.
As for the plot – loved it! Kiss of Snow is a game changer people. During the fabulous firework display that is Hawke & Sienna, there are a couple of other major events that happen. The first being the birth of Sascha and Lucas’ cub. I’m not going to tell you what they have, but you’ll finally get to meet the child. Also, Sienna is not the only Snow Dancer Psy getting a little action either. With all of this going on, there are ripples in the Psy political structure that will have a big impact on the next novel. Some of these ripples may have appeared in Bonds of Justice and Play of Passion, but they become even more obvious now.
With all the action that does go on (and all the ripples I was talking about earlier), I’m really kicking myself for not being more caught up than I am. Fans of Nalini Singh’s are going to love Kiss of Snow and will be left eagerly awaiting the next novel as well. Hawke & Sienna’s story is not only explosive, but it’s not over the top either. Singh does such a fantastic job getting the two together in such a believable way, that it was just perfect. Add in all the action and side romances, and we’re given a story that will not only keep you glued to the pages, but will leave you breathless in anticipation for what is to come.
