Contest: Cheat the Grave by V. Pettersson

VPettersson-Cheat the GraveDid you know that the conclusion to the epic Signs of the Zodiac series by Vicki Pettersson, The Neon Graveyard, will be released on May 31st?  Joanna has been through a lot and for fans of the series, I’m sure they are eagerly awaiting to see how this will all end.  Especially considering how Cheat the Grave ended.  Wait, you haven’t read Cheat the Grave?  What are you waiting for?  Is it just because you haven’t been able to get your hands on a copy yet?  If so, you’re in luck.  The wonderful people at Harper Collins have given me four copies of Cheat the Grave to give away to four wonderfully delinquent readers – yes you’re all delinquent if you haven’t read this series, as am I and I’ve fully accepted this.

To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: What are you going to miss about Joanna and this wonderful series?  For those of us who haven’t read, or finished, it yet, why should we?  If you haven’t read it, why not? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.  (US only)

As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat (remember, these aren’t mandatory to enter, just extra entries):

  • +1 for each place you post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.
  • +1 to any review of Vicki’s novels you comment on, however, comments must be meaningful. Just give me the title of the review and I’ll be able to figure it out from there.
  • +1 If you are a follower of Literary Escapism on Facebook and/or Twitter
  • +10 Purchase any of Vicki’s novels (listed above) through LE’s Amazon store or the Book Depository sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: jackie AT literaryescapism DOT com. Each purchase is worth ten entries.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until May 31st, when The Neon Graveyard is released, at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer and the List Randomizer.  I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

If you haven’t read Jennifer’s review of The Neon Graveyard, well why not?  Vicki and I sat down to discuss Joanna and the Zodiac world last summer; if you missed it, you can read the two-part interview here and here. Wait, you are familiar with Vicki, right?

vicki petterssonPettersson was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her birthdate is in November, making her a Sagittarius like her Zodiac series protagonist, Joanna Archer. She was a showgirl for “Les Folies Bergere” for 10 years at the Tropicana before giving up show business to be a mother and author.[1]

Pettersson first tried writing historical fiction, but somehow it didn’t quite fit. She found her calling in Dark Urban Fantasy. She named a casino “Valhalla” in her books as a sort of homage to her historical fiction roots.

The idea for the Zodiac series came to Pettersson in a dream.[1] She chose Las Vegas as the setting for her Zodiac series because she says, “it’s the best possible place in the world for strange characters, and because I know it well.

Joining forces with a band of rogue Shadow agents, Joanna’s ready to storm the stronghold of her demonic foe, risking everything to enter this ghastly, godforsaken realm where the price of admission is her eternal soul. I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I have not read the series, I had not heard of it until now but would love to read it

  2. I haven’t read the series yet because I just got the first book, The Scent of Shadows, recently and I still have a couple more to get in the series. Believe me, I’m going to be reading this series soon.

  3. I have this book (actually, all these books) so I’m not entering the contest (unless you have copies of The Neon Graveyard up your sleeves!). I find it interesting Joanna is shown on the cover with her brown hair instead of Olivia’s blonde. Although the gal is busty enough to be Olivia. :) I hope she gets Hunter back…!

  4. I so need to catch up on this series. I’ve loved the first two and am hoping that Johanna gets her hea and everything is cleared up.

  7. This is one of my favorite series! I’m going to miss all the characters I’ve grown to love and the setting of Las Vegas.

  8. Oh, gosh! I had no idea the series was ending! Well, hopefully it’s not the last we’ll hear from Vicki Pettersson.
Those of you who haven’t read this series yet should because it offers an innovative, totally non-campy take on superheroes, and the mythology is fascinating! Not to mention that Joanna is a great character, strong but capable of making mistakes–and learning from them!
    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  9. Good observation, Nancy T.!

I’m going to miss Joanna’s growth, evolution and the lessons she learns. As she growns and learns, so do I. Sometimes, the wisdom peeking out between battle scenes screams such truths that I feel it’s coming from my own life.

I will miss looking for all the clues placed throughout all of the books, tiny cookie crumbs pointing to major events yet to come. (Re-reading has revealed several that I missed the first time around.)

I’m definitely going to miss Joanna’s sharp tongue and smart sense of humor. It was her personality that grabbed me and kept me reading to begin with. The heart-wrenching relationships, the head-scratching mystery and the pulse-pounding excitement all combine to create a perfect series.
How can a story be both beautiful and terrifying at the same time? Vicki manages it. That perfect combination of Shadow and Light is not just in Joanna, but in her very storyline. You’re drawn in and don’t ever want to leave.
THAT is what I will miss. That entire world.

  10. The Sign of the Zodiac series is so unique in its design. I was taken back about how much I was invested in Joanna’s struggles as a character as the series unwounded towards this final installment. I will be sad to see the series end because tasting the battles of Shadow and Light has been a magnificent escape into another world that I will truly miss.

  11. I haven’t read it because I wasn’t aware of it! I’ll have to add this to my wish list. I am finishing up a couple of other series right now, but will be on the lookout for this one!

  12. I havent read this series because I have not been aware of it. But now that I am, I would enjoy winning this book and I will get a hold of the rest of the series so I can be caught up. Thanks for entering me your giveaway.

  13. I’ll miss the great writing and Joanna, a great heroine, and the plethora of light and dark contrasts in very edgy stories.

  14. Love this series. Sad too see it end. The whole series is great.

Posted this link on FB at Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Book Lovers.

  15. I love Joanna because she’s so strong and yet vulnerable at the same time. This is a very unique series. Each book is action-packed, and has plenty of humor and sensuality as well.

  16. Joanna is like no other female character I have had the pleasure of knowing. She is incredibly strong and able to overcome extremely difficult situations. It is inspiring to read a book with a female heroine who does not need to be rescued.

  17. I’m going to miss Joanna’s determination and spunk, her sarcastic comments and just the incredibly emotional ride of her life, she is truly one of a kind…and Hunter, I will def. miss her and Hunter together(or the gut wrenching times when they’re apart).
