A Table for Three by L. Reese

LReese-A Table for ThreeSometimes you’re just in a mood for a good ménage, right? I hadn’t intentionally set out to buy one when I was perusing ebooks the other day, but who could resist getting a book titled A Table for Three (by Lainey Reese). You instantly know it’s gonna be a ménage and this did not disappoint on that aspect.

She’s taking two bites out of the Big Apple.

Riley Ramirez knew that moving to New York would change her life. She just didn’t expect it to start on her very first night in town. Her attraction to nightclub owner Kincade Marshall is instant, mind-blowing—and mutual. When she finds he is a Dom who requires her complete surrender, even when it comes to submitting to his best friend, Trevor Wellington, she finds herself willing and eager to embrace the sexual adventure.

From their earliest days, Cade and Trevor have shared everything, including women. Yet it only takes one night with Riley to know she is their forever lady. Convincing her that this is more than a temporary fling, though, will take every tool in their sensual arsenal.

As Cade and Trevor set their sights on Riley, however, they’re unaware—until it’s almost too late—that someone is targeting their fragile relationship. Someone who’s taking deadly aim at Riley. Suddenly their struggle to keep their forever woman is a fight to keep her alive…

Warning: This book contains m/f/m ménage, bdsm play, lots of steamy p.d.a, and a fine dining experience that will leave you salivating for more.

I found parts of A Table for Three just not believable…in the sense that would these things really happen like the way they did in the story? Riley is from a small town in Washington state, grew up in low middle class family, never went to college.  She goes to a club that her cabbie recommended to her on her first night and just happens to get noticed by Cade…who is from “old money” and had the best of everything…and he sees her and just “knows”? Now, I’m all for love at first sight/first meeting. I believe that can happen, though I don’t think you usually know that is what hit you until a few months down the road. So, yes I can understand that they shared an intense connection right off the bat, but Riley isn’t all that experienced after only having 2 lovers ever.  So she is just OK with having sex in a bar where people could maybe see AND she goes home with Cade and is just fine when he brings Trevor into the mix later that night?

Now, I did enjoy the story of the three of them…Riley, Cade and Trevor. The heat factor is way up there. If you’re skiddish of BDSM type of novels, I’d really say this was fairly tame as to the S&M part.  Now, Trevor and Cade are both Doms and are quite patient teaching Riley the ways of being a sub.  This isn’t a D/s situation just in the bedroom…but in all areas of their lives.  Riley does push the boundaries the guys try to set for her and at some points compromises are made. So, maybe not a strict D/s situation.

One thing that just ate at me through this book was the lack of a protag development.  There is a protag and you see the issue coming a mile away as that part of the story is given.  Trevor and Cade have known this person for practically all their lives and never would’ve thought she could do what she did. However, you only get a few paragraphs here and there about Annie (the protag) and her information seems really rushed and too obvious.  A jealous spoiled brat is what she is and you only get like 2 paragraphs it seemed on her background and the probable “why” she is so jealous.  This area just needed *more* IMHO.  I’m all for some good smutty erotic goodness. But, give me something more in the way of that protag pull.

All in all, I enjoyed A Table for Three. It was good for what it was meant to be…a ménage.  Just don’t expect too much depth as far as character development, especially on the protag, or some big twisted and complex story arc.  Although, that isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes one just needs a good book that doesn’t require much thought on the part of the reader and it’s value is truly to escape and enjoy smutty good times.
