Go The F*ck To Sleep by A. Mansbach

AMansbach-Go the F to SleepI don’t have children of my own, and I don’t plan on having any in the near future. But that didn’t stop me from reading and absolutely loving Go The Fuck To Sleep by Adam Mansbach.

Go the Fuck to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach’s verses perfectly capture the familiar–and unspoken–tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity.

With illustrations by Ricardo Cortes, Go the Fuck to Sleep is beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny–a book for parents new, old, and expectant. You probably should not read it to your children.

Following the story of a tired parent lived out by parents around the world every night, Go The Fuck To Sleep is a hilarious and realistic picture book for adults. The illustrations are adorable and exactly what you’d expect from any children’s book. But the words are straight out of a tired, cranky parent’s head. Though, obviously, it’s not just parents who would enjoy this book. Anyone who has ever had to put a child to bed (or if you’re young enough to remember the nights when you would just flat out refuse to go to bed) will absolutely love it.

For those of you who enjoy audio books, Samuel L. Jackson narrates Go The Fuck Sleep. And for those of you with ereaders, it’s available from Amazon and Barnes and Nobles as an ebook.

  1. This book is hilarious and so true. Samuel L Jackson’s narration is golden. I would buy the book but I’m sure my kids would find it and beg me to read it to them. How to convince them that a picture book is “for grown-ups”?
