Murder in Thin Air

It’s not very often that I become interested in a book that is outside of my comfort zone. Especially one by an author I’ve never heard of, but when I found out that the plot involved hot air balloons and my home town, it piqued my interest. The novel, Murder in Thin Air, is the 9th Michigan-based thriller by Richard Baldwin. The novel has a release date of June 2008. The novel is being published by Buttonwood Press, but I haven’t been able to find it on Amazon just yet. Regardless, here’s a blurb about the book.

Murder in Thin Air is about Dr. Janet Reid, a chemistry professor at Alma College and a champion hot air balloon pilot, who is murdered when her balloon – The Bagpiper – explodes over Battle Creek. Lou Searing and Jack Kelly, with help from Maggie McMillan and Heather Moore, investigate the murder involving a cast of suspects from Alma College and the ballooning world. Revenge, competition and suspense figure into the equation as the investigators solve a complex set of circumstances in this newest Baldwin novel.

In movie news, Willem Dafoe is going to be playing a vampire in Cirque du Freak. The film is based on novels by Darren Shan, but I really haven’t heard too much about it. It doesn’t have a release date until 2009, so we’ll see what happens later this year.

Some fantastic news for LK Hamilton fans. Berkley has contracted three more Anita Blake novels, with the first one to be published next year.  I knew Hamilton had more novels in her head, but I just naturally assumed they were contracted to be released. At least, now we know they will be, but it does bring up an interesting question on how many more there will be.
