The Purple Cover Contest

I’m in the mood to do another giveaway and since I can, I’m going to.  There’s really no rhyme or reason to this one, so I’m just going to show you what I’m giving away.

Radiant Shadows by Melissa Marr

MMArr-Radiant ShadowsHalf-human and half-faery, Ani is driven by her hungers.

Those same appetites also attract powerful enemies and uncertain allies, including Devlin. He was created as an assassin and is brother to the faeries’ coolly logical High Queen and to her chaotic twin, the embodiment of War. Devlin wants to keep Ani safe from his sisters, knowing that if he fails, he will be the instrument of Ani’s death.

Ani isn’t one to be guarded while others fight battles for her, though. She has the courage to protect herself and the ability to alter Devlin’s plans—and his life. The two are drawn together, each with reason to fear the other and to fear for one another. But as they grow closer, a larger threat imperils the whole of Faerie. Will saving the faery realm mean losing each other?

Hard Bitten by Chloe Neill

CNeill-Hard BittenTimes are hard for newly minted vampire Merit. Ever since shapeshifters announced their presence to the world, humans have been rallying against supernaturals–and they’re camping outside of Cadogan House with protest signs that could turn to pitchforks at any moment. Inside its doors, things between Merit and her Master, green-eyed heartbreaker Ethan Sullivan are … tense. But then the mayor of Chicago calls Merit and Ethan to a clandestine meeting and tells them about a violent vamp attack that has left three women missing. His message is simple: get your House in order. Or else.

Merit needs to get to the bottom of this crime, but it doesn’t help that she can’t tell who’s on her side. So she secretly calls in a favor from someone who’s tall, dark, and part of underground vamp group that may have some deep intel on the attack. Merit soon finds herself in the heady, dark heart of Chicago’s supernatural society–a world full of vampires who seem too ready to fulfill the protesting human’s worst fears, and a place where she’ll learn that you can’t be a vampire without getting a little blood on your hands…

Bite Club by Rachel Caine

RCaine-Bite ClubAfter discovering that vampires populate her town, college student Claire Danvers knows that the undead just want to live their lives. But someone else wants them to get ready to rumble.

There’s a new extreme sport getting picked up on the Internet: bare- knuckle fights pitting captured vampires against each other-or humans. Tracking the remote signal leads Claire- accompanied by her friends and frenemies-to discover that what started as an online brawl will soon threaten everyone in Morganville…

Three books, three winners and it’s fairly easy to enter.  All you have to do is answer this question: What are you currently (have just finished) reading and why should we (or not) read it?  Or, if you’re not reading anything at the  moment, what’s your favorite 2011 release so far? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat (remember, these aren’t mandatory to enter, just extra entries):

  • +1 for each place you post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.
  • +1 to any review of Vicki’s novels you comment on, however, comments must be meaningful. Just give me the title of the review and I’ll be able to figure it out from there.
  • +1 If you are a follower of Literary Escapism on Facebook and/or Twitter
  • +10 Purchase any novel through LE’s Amazon store sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: jackie AT literaryescapism DOT com. Each purchase is worth ten entries.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until July 31st at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer and the List Randomizer.  I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Oooooh!! I want Hard Bitten! And Bite Club!! So what if I’ve already read Hard Bitten? I don’t have a paper copy… ;)

I’m reading A Dance with Dragons, and EVERYBODY MUST READ IT! Ok, so maybe not everyone. But fans of epic fantasy will love the complicated world and GRRM’s willingness to do the hard thing and kill off characters because they make sense for the storyline.

  6. I am reading When She Woke by Hilary Jordan. You should read it because it is a good book with a unique story line and you should not read it because with todays political climate, this book might not be to far off from a possible reality. This is a new version of the Scarlet Letter (IMO). +1

  7. I just finished reading Passion by Lauren Kate. The third book in the Fallen Series. You should definitely read this book because it has a great love story and a few hot fallen angels.

  8. My favorite release this year was Kim Harrison’s Pale Demon. Reading about Rachel, Trent, Ivy, and Jenks on a roadtrip was so much fun.

  9. I just finished reading Magic in the Shadows and it was awesome. Allie is a strong heroine but has faults and isn’t perfect.

  10. I just finished Nightshade by Andrea Cremer and it was way better than I expected. People should read it because the heroine is very likeable and there are two outstanding guys who are trying to win her affection. I am about to start on Dark Descent by Jenna Black.

  11. I just started reading Dying Bites: The Bloodhound Files, and its pretty good so far. The main character is a tough chick and I love her attitude, she’s got a smart remark for everything. I think any paranormal fan would enjoy this book, its got all the supes and set in the modern world and there’s a serial murderer to be caught by our smart mouthed FBI agent.
I definitely want a copy of any or all of the books, I’ve already read Hard Bitten, loved it, it made me cry… :o( But I want to read it again. I haven’t read any Rachel Caine, but all of her books are on my TBR list and I am always looking for new authors, so would enjoy delving into Radiant Shadows.

  12. I’m currently reading Game of Thrones. I really loved the show and I know that books are almost always better than the movie/series. I currently finished reading The Nine Lives of Chloe King. It was a good read with some interesting mythology. By favorite 2011 releases have been River Marked by Patricia Briggs, Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris, and Pale Demon by Kim Harrison.

    Thanks

  13. I’m currently reading Skinwalker by Faith Hunter, which is a fantastic urban fantasy set in New Orleans. The main character, Jane Yellowrock is a panther shifter who hunts rogue vampires and who’s best friend is a witch. What’s not to love?
I think my favorite 2011 release so far is Hounded by Kevin Hearne, a fantastic fantasy featuring a 2,000 year old Druid, with interesting characters, a wonderful story, and non-stop action.

  14. I have just started a book by Ciana Stone, A Matter of Trust. So far I would recommend it because it contains an interesting storyline. The hero who was traumitized is unable to speak and is treated as a very young child. There are so many bad guys, possible murders, and other subplots that I feel like I’m immersed in a spy story or secret agent story. lisa gk at (yahoo) dot com

  15. I’m reading Gone by Michael Grant right now and it is SO good! If you like dystopian YA, this is the book for you:)

  16. I’m not reading anything at the moment, but my favorite 2011 release so far is Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh. I’m a huge fan of both of Nalini’s series and Kiss of Snow is one excellent book! Nalini Singh writes the sensuality of romance like no other. The romance was great as usual, and KoS was also action-packed and exciting.

  17. I have just finished reading THE CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR by Jean M. Auel

Orphaned following an earthquake Ayla is adopted into the Neanderthal Clan of the Cave Bear. I could not put this book down, the first in the Earth’s Children series. I was fascinated by the traditions, superstitions and just survival. I have decided I want to own the series.

I am now onto the second book of the series: THE VALLEY OF HORSES.

A classic series, I am just now getting around to reading.

  18. I can’t even remember the book I finished yesterday. However, I read Live Wire by Harlan Coban on Sat. This is part of a series I have never read and I’d recommend reading the earlier books first to understand better the characters’ relationships, but it’s still readable as a stand alone. I don’t see why it was so highly rated. While the characters were “unique”, they were not amusing like Elmore Leonard’s characters and while the story had twists and turns the excitment never really built. Not a waste of time or a hard read, but nothing much to recommend.

  19. Well, I just finished re-reading Harry Poter & Deathly Hallows for the release of the movie but I’m not counting that. But I am in the middle of Jean Johnson’s Son of Destiny series. It is very good, some heat, and since I am a major readaholic, I like different worlds so it really helps that there are different worlds inside their world. Did that make sense? If not, sorry. Any of the books above look wonderful.

  20. I just read THE WIDOW by Carla Neggers and loved it. A recently new bride became a widow 4 days after the wedding and she is out to seek answers on her husband’s death. Was it an accident. I think it’s a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and can’t think any more reason is needed to read it. Carla Neggers is a great author too. susan Leech garysue@dejazzd.com

  21. I’m reading the Rough Riders Series by Lorelei James right now. You should read it if you want a small break from paranormal. Those cowboys are HOT!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. I have recently read Graveminder by Melissa Marr which has lead me to start her Wicked Lovely series. I’m on the third book of the series so far and cannot seem to put it down. Such a wickedly wonderful world painted in the ink of the pages of these books! Graveminder was so completely different, but still truly magical. I fall back into my lounge chair every day this week, so far, and get lost in this series. I know that the genre says it’s Young Adult, but I fell in love with her Keenan and want to find out what happens next!

This has been tweeted, shared, stumbled, and blogged about on both facebook and twitter :)

    Following as well.

  23. I would love Radiant Shadows!

I just finished Divergent by Veronica Roth today. Great YA dystopian (with flaws, but forgivable ones). Although I appreciated the originality of it, I wasn’t a fan of The Hunger Games, so I’m excited to have found another example of the genre to follow.
