Bite Me by P. Blue

PBlue-Bite MeI first picked up Bite Me by Parker Blue a couple of years ago, but for some reason I just never read it until now. I really hate that reason because Val has instantly become one of my favorite vampire slayers.

Life after high school is tough enough without having to go 15 rounds with your inner demon. Val Shapiro is just your ordinary, part-demon, teenaged vampire hunter with a Texas drawl. And a pet hellhound named Fang. Soon enough she finds herself deep in the underbelly of the city, discovering the secrets of the Demon Underground and fighting to save those she loves. Whether they love her back or not.

Bite Me takes a new twist on teenage girls fighting vampires when Val basically gets disowned by her parents on her birthday. The unique plot grew as Val struggled with her new found independence before finding a job with a secret department of the police, requiring her slaying skills.  Val was able to kick vampire butt so well because of her part-demon heritage – which just so happened to be succubus. Val nicknamed the “demon inside” of her Lola. (A little side note, every time that Val mentioned Lola, I would think of The Kinks’ song Lola and it would make me laugh, which proves how warped my sense of humor is.)

My only problem with Bite Me was Val’s sister Jen. Just a couple of years younger than Val, Jen continually made really stupid decisions throughout the novel, most of which caused problems for Val. While it did work to move the plot along, I just wanted to shake some sense into Jen’s thick head.

Bite Me has it all – epic fight scenes, a bit of romance, a sassy heroine and a hell hound that was more adorable than scary. If you haven’t checked out this series yet, I highly recommend it.

  1. I got a copy of this from NetGalley. I’m glad to see that it really looks like a good one. I figured it’d be one I’d enjoy (I wouldn’t have requested a copy otherwise), but to know that it’s got at least one good review behind it is a boost!
