Storm’s Heart by Thea Harrison

THarrison-Storms HeartStorm’s Heart by Thea Harrison is the second book in Harrison’s Elder Races series. If you haven’t yet read the first book, Dragon Bound, RUN…and I do mean RUN to the nearest bookstore or ebook retailer of your choice and buy it already! This is a new series and it is pretty fantastic. Once I finished Dragon Bound back in the spring, I’ll admit, I was itching at the seams (and I let Ms. Harrison know it, too *G*) for Storm’s Heart.

He’s a wyr warrior, a god of storms. She’s the heir to the Dark Fae throne. But desire will bring both to their knees in this all-new Novel of the Elder Races.

During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle found sanctuary among the wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle’s death, there are those who don’t want to see her ascend to the throne…

Able to wield thunder and lightning, wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the wyr’s best weapons. And he’s sent to protect Tricks when she’s almost assassinated in Chicago.

Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them—a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds…

You meet both Tricks (aka Niniane) and Tiago in Dragon Bound and let me tell you, you will adore Tricks. She is funny, smart, and while petite in height, her personality is not petite and she does not let anyone (big, overbearing Wry, Dark Fae or Vampyre) push her around. I was very much looking forward to getting to know Tricks better. Her quick wit and comic relief in Dragon Bound endeared her to me and after the revelations at the end of Dragon Bound, I knew Tricks would not have an easy time in the immediate future. I was not disappointed. Not even a full two chapters in and Tricks had me almost in tears with laughter. However, it isn’t all fun and games for Tricks. In fact, more often than not, she is in some kind of danger and she has to figure out who she can and cannot trust.

Then you have Tiago…a big thundercat wyr, who Tricks describes in his human form a look-a-like of Dwayne Johnson (yes, the Rock…and man oh man, yeah I think that’s spot on *G*). Tiago isn’t known for his happy-go-lucky personality. In fact, his fellow Wyr sentinels have nicknamed him Dr. Death. He’s the big bad enforcer who has always been off taking care of the nasty part of Wyr business. When Tricks disappears after an assassination attempt, it is Tiago who is sent to take care of Tricks and kill the perp. Never did Tiago imagine what fate apparently has in store for him. Who would have guessed that the sassy, loud and smart-mouthed faerie would be this brute of a Wyr’s mate? The relationship isn’t easy and each acknowledge it will be difficult, but in the end, they acquiesce to the passion between them.

Storm’s Heart was just as good and action packed as Dragon Bound. The plot is fast paced and if you even try to skip so much as a paragraph, you’ll miss something pretty important. Ms. Harrison definitely knows how to spin a tale. All I can say is if you haven’t yet picked up these books, you are missing out. I’m already dying for Serpent’s Kiss, which will feature Rune and Carling. As much as I love my summers…is it October yet? ;).

Attorney by day, Publicist for Barclay Publicity and reviewer/LE (assistant) editor by night. I'm a huge book nerd and love to read. I have 2 dogs, both Labrador retriever mixed breeds, who are very rotten and think they run the house. Let's not lie, they totally do, I just can't them know it ha ha! My usual genre is romance or urban fantasy. I love all things having to do with paranormal, with the occasional good contemp/BDSM/erotica thrown in to spice it all up.
