Heroes Return by Moira Moore

MMoore-Heroes ReturnHeroes Return by Moira J. Moore was one of those books that just grabbed me on the first sentence and never let go. Even after I finished it, I was stuck thinking about the characters and what adventures they’ll face next.

The Emperor has personally selected Shield Lee Mallorough and Source Shintaro Karish to protect the duchy of Westsea-Taro’s ancestral lands. Having abjured his title, Taro has no desire to return home, but what the Emperor commands, a Shield and Source must obey. But Westsea is suffering from deadly earthquakes that resist Lee and Taro’s magic and political unrest that is stoked by their arrival.

Lee was my favorite kind of heroine – one who takes charge and kicks butt while having a sense of humor that matches my own. Taro, though, was apparently a bit moodier in Heroes Return because he didn’t want to be around his family. I still really liked his tall, dark and brooding attitude that he held on to most of the time.  The plot was full of action and humor, with a bit of romance and mystery that kept Heroes Return from ever being boring.

While it is easy to get sucked into Heroes Return, it is the fifth book in the series and there were a couple of things that I found confusing, only because I haven’t yet read the first four books in the series. For those of you who are new to the series, I would suggest that you start with book one, Resenting the Hero and work your way through the series.

There were a few things left open-ended in Heroes Return, but I’m sure that was just setting up for the next book(s) in the series, which I cannot wait to read. (After I go back and read books 1-4 first.)

Read Order:
Resenting the Hero
The Hero Strikes Back
Heroes Adrift
Heroes at Risk
Heroes Return

  1. I am glad that you liked this. The second hand bookstore has had several of the books the last couple times I was there, but I couldn’t make up my mind. Now I will have to pick-up the first book at some point because it sounds good.
