Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series is one of the most unique series I’ve ever had the joy of reading. It’s dark and twisted yet full of love and hope. Spider’s Revenge, the fifth book in this excellent series, won’t disappoint readers.

Now, I’m ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was thirteen. Oh, I don’t think the mission will be easy, but turns out it’s a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I’m coming for her. So now I’m up against the army of lethal bounty hunters Mab hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister’s head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second. Good thing I’ve got my powerful Ice and Stone magic—and my irresistible lover, Owen Grayson—to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there’s a good chance I won’t survive. But if I’m going down, then Mab’s coming with me . . . no matter what I have to do to make that happen.
From the very first page, there were many nail-biting fight scenes that pushed Gin past her endurance level, but Spider’s Revenge wasn’t just about getting revenge on Mab Monroe. There was also a decidedly emotional side to the story as Gin and her lover Owen grew closer. Gin and her sister Bria also worked on closing the bridge between them.
Gin has a hard time letting people get close to her – since one of the perks of being an assassin is constantly having your loved ones in danger and Gin doesn’t want that. Gin was forced to work through her fears and come to terms with the fact that she has friends and family there to stay. This has been one of the problems she has been working on throughout the series but her relationships with Owen and Bria finally came to the point where she either has to let them in completely or shut them out of her life for good.
Like I said before, Spider’s Revenge was full of nail-biting fight scenes. Gin was hell bent on finally getting her revenge on Mab Monroe, and they had several confrontations throughout. Each scene was so intense and realistic, so bloody and violent that I literally felt like I was right there next to Gin, fighting for my life. All of the action was enough to counterbalance the emotional turmoil Gin went through, and keep it from becoming too soap opera-y. Together, it was more than enough to keep readers hooked.
Spider’s Revenge was everything that fans of Gin and the gang have come to expect and love. Those new to the series will instantly be sucked in by the unique blend of blood, love and the sweetest, homemade desserts Gin loves making. The ending of Spider’s Revenge was a bit open-ended so I cannot wait to see what Gin gets into in By a Thread.
