You’ve may have noticed that Literary Escapism was down for a couple of days. Well, my husband and I moved to our first house and our DSL wasn’t hooked up correctly. We host all of our websites on our own, so when our internet isn’t connected properly, everything goes down and a bunch of errors start to show up. Needless to say, if you’re reading this, then that means we’re up and running again. We’re not planning on moving again for a very long time, so this should be the only time I’m out of commission. Hopefully I haven’t lost anyone during the downtime, however, I was still reading, so watch for reviews to pop up quickly.

I’ve updated the releases page. If you haven’t seen my new release page, then I should tell you, I have it broken up into two sections – authors I continuously watch because I’m addicted to their series vs. authors I don’t know or I like, but will borrow the books instead of buying them. The last section is where I add the dates that I get from other people or groups, but I’m going to start keeping an eye on those authors releases as well. I’m not sure how I’m going to do that yet, but I’ll figure out some efficient way. If you know of any release dates I should include, let me know. I will say one thing….some of the authors do not update their pages very often. There are some who have their latest posts being back in 2007. So this is making it hard to add excerpts for some of the new releases.

Anyway, here are some of the new excerpts:

Bone Cross by Patricia Briggs will be out sometime in February of 2009. The cover hasn’t been officially released on her site yet, but her artist, Dan Dos Santos, has it up at his. It’s so shiny. None of the text has been included yet, but do we really need that?

Kelley Armstrong has the cover for Living with the Dead up at her site. It’s the ninth book in the Otherworld series. Isn’t it pretty?

In case you missed my earlier post, Sherrilyn Kenyon has posted her Acheron Tour Dates. She’s going to be in Ann Arbor and I’m already making plans to be there for her appearance.

Katie MacAlister is also running an interesting poll. She’s curious to know when people would like her to hold KatieCon. Katie’s con isn’t going to be just another conference where there are writers and editors and whatnot, but it’s going to be a day of fun with giveaways, puzzle pirates/poker, and of course signing as just a few of the events. See my previous post for more details. Updated: She’s narrowed down the date – Saturday April 25th – but there are a few questions she still needs to answer, so she has set up a survey for people who are interested in attending. Another bright spot for this Con, Katie has talked with her publisher and they have said they should be able to provide attendees with a copy of her new novel that will be released in May 2009. Sounds like this is going to be a fun time. I just wished I could go out there and have fun with everyone else.

Some really good news, well, it’ll be good news towards the end of the year. Jeaniene Frost’s third Night Huntress novel’s, At Grave’s End, release date has changed. It will now be out December 30th of this year instead of at the end of January next year. There is even talk of it coming out a little earlier, but we won’t know for sure until it gets closer to the date.

Jenna Black’s third novel, The Devil’s Due, will be out November 25th. Don’t forget, her second novel, The Devil You Know, will be out July 29th – here’s a link to Chapter 1. It’s fun to know our two favorite gay demons will be back in action for this one as well.

Rachel Vincent announced the release dates for the next two Werecat books. Pride will be out February 1, 2009, and Prey is tentatively scheduled for July 1, 2009.

If anyone is on Facebook, then you should check out a couple of new groups that yours truly started since no one else has. There are a bunch of others as well, and I’ve been trying to join all of my author’s groups, but I’ve been finding some fun ones as well. So if you’re on Facebook, look me up.

Anne Bishop is part of an anthology coming out in September. Imaginary Friends will include the story Stands a God Within the Shadows, however, I’m not sure if it’s apart of a current series or if it’s a stand alone novella. Either way, here’s an excerpt.

Fangs, Fur & Fey has set up their own newsletter via Yahoo Groups. There are a ton of urban fantasy and paranormal romance writers that belong to that group, so there is always something going on. If you haven’t checked it out yet, than what are you waiting for?

Congratulations to Ann Aguirre…she just signed a deal with Berkley Sensation to write paranormal romances. She’ll be using the name Ava Gray, with a whole new website, so if you see any Ava Gray books, know they are from our Grimspace author.

I’ve recently came across a new online book magazine. Horror Bound is a literary magazine that focuses on the horror genre. They have interviews, book excerpts, reviews on art, poetry, and books, plus a whole bunch of other interesting information. The latest interview features up there is for Sarah Langan and her new novel The Missing.

I’m not sure if anyone knows of Dark Realms Magazine, but they are closing their doors this fall. It’s kind of sad, I just found them and I kinda like it. It seems to be a Gothic sort of novel, but not necessarily over dramatic.

Anya Bast’s new novel, Chosen Sin, which is due out in October has a fancy new cover. I can’t remember if I’ve already mentioned this or not, but hey, there’s no reason we can’t have it twice if I have. The novel has already been reviewed by Owl Romance Reviews and they are loving it.

Jeremy Lewis, author of Staked, has joined the League of Reluctant Adults. I’m not completely familiar with this author, but after reading his welcoming post by Anton Stout, I can not but try and get my hands on his novel. If you want to know more about Mr. JF Lewis, than click here.

If you’re a fan of Joss Whedon and are eagerly awaiting his new series, Dollhouse, then you should know that the stars will be out at the San Diego Comic Con. That’s not the only show being showcased at the Con by Fox this year. They will also have actors from Prison Break, Bones, 24, Life on Mars, Family Guy, The Simpsons, American Dad and Futurama.

Okay, I have to ask….has anyone seen Joss Whedon’s online series, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog? He has a teaser trailer up and it has Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillon in it. Two great actors and it’s going to be exclusively available online. If anyone is interested, I have the trailer up at my blog. Here’s a review by the Seattle Post-Intelligence.

For Tru Blood fans, HBO has started up a blog dedicated to the show. It’s done in the first person where the blogger is actually living in Charlaine Harris’s world. Tru Blood is a synthetic blood that the Japanese just released and the vampires have just “come out of the coffins”. The blog is called BloodCopy and it’s kind of amusing. The latest news on the show is supposedly going to be posted there, but we’ll have to wait and see. Another fun site to see, that’s related to the HBO show, is Trubeverage. It’s the official website for that Japanese synthetic blood that the vampires are loving.

One last thing…Don’t forget that Conestoga 12 is happening at the end of this month. The conference is in Tulsa, Oklahoma and will be July 25-27th. It’s going to be a huge event and I’ll be jealous of anyone who gets to go, but everyone should have a great time. I know the guys over at Fangs, Fur, & Fey have their own mini-con within a con event planned and knowing all who’s involved with that, it can’t be anything but fun. The guest of honor this year is Diana Gabaldon, one of my all time favorite authors. The other honorees are: Artist Guest of Honor – Stephen Hickman, Fan Guest of Honor – Tim Miller, and Toastmaster – Gordon Van Gelder.
