Guest Author: Rayka Mennen

Rayka MennenI am excited to welcome author Rayka Mennen, who is celebrating the release of Enchanted Destiny.

Kat never believed she’d fall victim to her family’s stories about destined soul mates—she makes her own fate, thank you very much. When she walks by a construction site and admires the same sexy architect for the zillionth time in a week, the last thing she expects is to be slammed by a vision of his death. Which activates the spell that will change their lives forever.

Jake is a single dad with a singular focus—create a stable life for him and his son. His ex-wife cured him of any desire to fall in love, but when an intriguing woman saves him from what should’ve been a deadly accident, he can’t shake his fascination. Too bad she’s crazy, claiming she’s a witch and that they’re soul mates—not exactly the “stable life” he had in mind.

Kat’s destiny comes with a deadline. If they don’t fall in love by her twenty-fifth birthday—a mere three weeks away—Jake will never find the peace he seeks and Kat will lose her magic forever.

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away an ecopy of Enchanted Destiny.

Writing the paranormal romance novel without vampires or werewolves

Greetings gentle readers,
Thanks to Literary Escapism for hosting me. My name is Rayka Mennen and I write paranormal romance. Hi Rayka.

I love doing it. I love creating new worlds and new rules for how the world operates. But guess what? There’s nary a vampire, werewolf, or demon in sight. No, you cry…gasp…that can’t be paranormal romance, can it? It’s a question I get asked often enough that I decided to spend a few moments on it. So, picture this, Sicily 1932…just kidding. Picture this:

Rayka: I write fiction.
X: Really, what kind?
Rayka: Paranormal romance.
X: You mean like Twilight?

Sigh. Now I have nothing against the Twilight series. But having to explain every time, that no, my books are quite different, becomes a tad tedious. Just saying. I like writing about witches and their interactions with ordinary folk. Don’t get me wrong, I love many of the beings created by my fellow-authors; and a certain vampire (who is now completely blind) and a certain were-wolf who has (9 books later) finally found his mate, vie for top honors in my fantasies. But hey, witches are pretty cool too. Especially, if they’re just trying to deal with being a witch in a perfectly normal human society. Imagine trying to live in a Chicago suburb, complete with your new civil engineer husband and his toddler. Imagine, waiting in line at the day care and you wish you could just compel everyone ahead of you to suddenly need to find a restroom. Or you’re in the grocery store and you’re racing to the checkout counter when, swoosh… the adorable little lady with blue hair that you encountered in Aisle 17, and who is going to take at least 45 minutes to check out, swings in front of you. How tempting would it be to use a little magic and get ahead of her? So if you’re looking for a little escapism within the context of the world we live in every day, please read the Enchanted Series. Witches, cops, engineers, kids, grandmas, and mayhem. You won’t miss the vamps. Really.

So, who’s your favorite paranormal character?

Cheers, Rayka

Contest Time!

Thank you Rayka for taking the time to stop by Literary Escapism!

Contest Time! Rayka is giving away an ecopy of Enchanted Destiny. To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: Who’s your favorite paranormal character? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support the author by sharing their article, and this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until October 18th at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the snazzy new plug-in I have.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Thanks for a wonderful post and giveaway! Your book sounds fantastic and I’ve added to my wishlist.

I’d have to say that my fav PNR characters would have to be Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison and Mercy Thompson from Patricia Briggs.

    Thanks again!

  2. I’m with you. While I enjoy all of the paranormal creatures (especially shifters), I love books with otherwise ordinary people who just happen to be witches (like in Heather Webber’s Lucy Valentine series, or Tracy Madison’s Taste of Magic series).

This book sounds exactly like something I’d like. Best wishes with it. As for my favorite paranormal character, that would have to be a tossup between Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson – stars of my two favorite series.
