Guest Author: Rebecca Zanetti

Rebecca ZanettiI am excited to welcome author Rebecca Zanetti, who is getting ready to celebrate the release of her second Dark Protectors novel, Claimed.

A DARING RESCUE
Emma Paulsen is a geneticist driven by science. But she’s also a psychic, so when a dark, good-hearted vampire frees her from the clutches of the evil Kurjans, she realizes he must be the man who’s been haunting her dreams. But with a virus threatening vampire mates, Emma may discover a whole new meaning of “lovesick”…

A DEADLY DECISION
As King of the Realm, Dage Kayrs has learned to practice diplomacy. Still, it’s taken three hundred years to find his mate, so he’ll stop at nothing to protect her–even if it means turning his back on his own kind…

Make sure you stick around to the end. We’ll be giving away two copies of either Fated or Claimed – winners choice.

Thanks to the Literary Escape folks for having me here today! I write dark paranormals and someone asked me the other day how in the world normal people (readers) can relate to a race of powerful vampires. So I looked at my stories, thought about normal life, and decided it all came down to families. The vampires in my books either want or have strong family ties.

I come from a strong family—a good family. But having a good family means that people know you. Really know you.

My folks had a welcome to fall barbecue last weekend. We played in the pool and had an excellent dinner. Well, being the helpful type, I decided to pop inside and start cleaning up. I should mention at this point that I’m an adult who has been married for over ten years, has two kids, and a law degree. And I’m a bit clumsy.

So, I cut my thumb with a knife. Sliced it right down the middle. My sister, Debbie, came inside to help, saw the blood and said, “Eeek. Did you touch a knife?”

Of course I touched a knife. I was cleaning up. Then she started to gag and yelled at me to wrap my thumb in a paper towel. My sister doesn’t like blood.

So, we kept cleaning. Our mom came inside, took a look at my wrapped thumb and rounded on my sister. “Did you let her touch a knife?!?”

Keep in mind that my sister is three years younger than me. And I was standing right there. But Debbie just shrugged and said I’d done the damage before she’d come into the kitchen. So my mom panics, as is her right, and asks if I need stitches. Deb and I both say no. But yeah, I probably could’ve used a stitch.

So my mom sits, muttering about knives. Then my husband, Tony, lopes inside, beer bottle in hand, laughing at something one of my brothers-in-law said. He takes a look at my bandaged thumb and turns toward my sister and mom. “Who let her touch a knife?”

For the love of Pete. I was standing right there. I told him nobody ‘let’ me and I was fine. So Tony reaches for the self-made bandage, unwraps it and takes a good look, declaring he can super glue it at home. My sister shakes her head, saying that I’ll just rip it open again. Tony argues that he can band-aid it along with the super glue. Note that nobody bothered to consult me.

My dad came inside at the point, looked at my thumb and asked, “Who the heck let her touch a knife?”

So, well, there’s my story. The vampires in my books deal with the same day-to-day family issues that most of us see. The Dark Protectors are a race of vampires centered around a family of men, the Kayrs family. Five brothers who hold the paranormal world together. Yeah, they fight. They argue. Claimed features the oldest brother, who is the king of the vampire world and has to balance ruling with family. But in the end, family always comes first. They have to. They know everything about you.

So, for a chance to win either a copy of Fated (the first book) or Claimed (the new book), is there anything your family or your close friends know about you that drives you crazy? Let us know in the comments and also mention which book you’d like to win. We’ll pick two lucky winners.

Thank you Rebecca for taking the time to stop by Literary Escapism!

Contest Time! Rebecca is giving away two copies of either Fated or Claimed – winners choice. To enter, all you have to do is answer this one question: Is there anything your family or your close friends know about you that drives you crazy? Remember, you must answer the question in order to be entered.

Even though I’m not giving the additional entries any more, you can still help support the author by sharing their article, and this contest, on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you can. After all, the more people who are aware of this fabulous author ensures we get more fabulous stories.

The winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.

The contest will stay open until November 3rd at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the snazzy new plug-in I have.

I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I’m not going to do that when it comes out of my teenage son’s mouth lol. both of them are over 6 feet and I’m a short chubby woman. But this puts my back up and I get right up in their face and as my son puts it we have “dicussion” with mom and she wins. rofl.

  2. shoot forget to put the book I want. Would love to win the second one. It sounds great.

  3. they know all my embarassing stories and horrible habits.. i usually dont mind unless they bring em up in public.. i was a royal shit going through highschool and my mom never lets me forget that!

  4. It’s not embarrassing or anything but my friends know that I get hiccups every single day and they like to say that I owe them a buck for everyone that I have.

  5. My family knows that I have no filter between my brain and my mouth. They say I get a certain look on my face when I am about to say something either strange or inappropriate and someone will slap a hand over my mouth.LOL Hello…I have the right to free speech…HAHAH

  6. Great post!!! I’m the same way. Very klutzy. In my defense, I was born with no center vision in my right eye so I truly have no depth perception. I’m not allowed near glass or sharp items. I’m also not allowed to throw anything. ;)

I would love to try book 1 as I haven’t tried this series. Thanks soooo much!

  7. My family, esp my mom know about my bad habit. I’m so lazy and sometimes don’t care with my appearance on public. She like to mention that fact to everyone, which made me annoyed

  8. My family knows all of my secrets, even the ones I wish they did not know. My family knows me best and they take advantage of that when they want to embarrass me.

I would like to win Claimed. I love Fated and cannot wait to see how the series continues.

  10. I’m well-known for being pretty oblivious to my surroundings resulting in lots of bruises. I also tend to get lost, and can’t find my way back to places by sight alone. My husband just thinks it’s funny and makes sure that all of the hard edges in our house are padded and that I carry a GPS at all times.

I haven’t read either of these books, so I would want to start at the beginning with Fated. Thanks for the giveaway.

  11. Sometimes your family can embarrass you more than anyone else! I have a bad habit of not making my bed. I just don’t, it seems silly to me. AND I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been in a social situation that my Grandmother OR my mother has brought up that I have never made my bed. It sounds so completely silly, I know, but its super embarrassing!!

  12. My husband knows it freaks me out if he mentions any member of my family and the word ‘sex’ in the same sentence. *shudders* I think they are all sex-less and that’s the way I will continue to think. lol

    I’d love a copy of Fated. :)

  13. Like you, I am the biggest klutz. I can be walking across the room, & I tell you,the floor shifts and reaches out and grabs me! With my OCDism, I would like to start at the beginning of the series and get Fated!….thanks so much and I can’t wait to read the series. It’s on my TBR mountain!!!

  14. Love the interview…..Have not read any of this series yet but am anxious to read it. I would love to win the 1st book.

Well, I snore – heavily. I know it , I freely admit it. But when my husband or daughter say it – I get embarrassed and even mad sometimes. Silly really, but there it is!
