The Dark-Hunter Series by S. Kenyon

I’ve been reading the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and I am almost done with it. The series is actually pretty good and you don’t have to read them in order to know what is going on. Each book can stand on it’s own, however, it includes elements from all of the other books as well. The elements are not important to each plot, but only expands the knowledge of each character involved.

Kenyon creates her own spin on vampires; making them a part of Greek mythology rather than Transylvanian lore. The idea of a vampire is not so much a demon, but a race of immortal beings. There are actually two types of vampires – daimons (they steal souls instead of drinking blood) and dark-hunters (they kill the daimons and release the captured souls – protecting mankind). The birth of each kind is vastly different and I won’t go into it here.

It took me awhile to really get into it – the deviation of the idea of vampires threw me at first – but I’ve almost read all the books in the series and I’ve really enjoyed it. The plots flow rather quickly and we don’t get sucked into chapter long conversations. Let’s just say, that if you like vampire novels (or anything in the fantastical realm) and you’re looking for something a little different, than you should definitely check out this series.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
